Hmm you can tell them your financial situation or tell them if you have better offers from anyone else. check this: http://prelaw-guru.com/blog/how-to-negotiate-scholarships/

I've got 2-2.5 months (not kidding). Pick a date by which you would be in a position to make a decision. Don't think too much about how it affects them. They will take care of that. But they're generally very helpful

They require a sealed transcript from your university, with an envelope signed and sealed by the registrar. What you sent during the application probably counted as an unofficial transcript.

You've not mentioned how much scholarship, if any, the universities have offered you. Disclosure: I have absolutely no idea about your field, but sometimes it's the money that can help the final decision.

How to argue for fellowship for Master Program(CS, CMU)?

Have you any offers from any other universities? Maybe you can bargain. See this link for reference: http://prelaw-guru.com/blog/how-to-negotiate-scholarships/ -
I've got deadline extensions. It is possible. Schools are ready to give it if you make your case properly

Columbia is $1,000 and it doesn't even count in your fee

Thoughts on accepting offer without 1st year funding

A friend of mine got an RA position after he landed at CMU for his robotics MS program. Are you an international? -
Construction Management: UIUC vs. UC Boulder vs. IIT Madras
grindian replied to Silver Shah's topic in Decisions, Decisions
I am from India. I'd say go to UIUC to further your horizons and gain a global perspective. If you're troubled with funding, only then consider IIT-M/IIT-D -
Communications: USC Annenberg vs. Northwestern Medill?
grindian replied to leralynne's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Both are good programs but since you have friends in LA, you seem better placed there. -
Help! Columbia or Cornell or UTAustin or USC (ece and cs)
grindian replied to AngelaC's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Hmm USC is probably one level down the list. Cornell seems good and I don't think the M Eng would matter much. Try speaking to someone from UT Austin/Cornell -
Accepting scholarship aid and rejecting

This means they can deny me one? -
Hmm you're not considering Cornell? NYC is a very expensive place to stay.

It's a bit tough to get a job in Europe, from what I hear. Easier for engineers to get a job in the US, depending on your stream.

I'd say if you aren't attracted by the Stanford professors and curriculum, leave it. Medill is VERY good, and has an equally good name among news organizations. There is no doubt about this. I have spoken to several alumni and both vouch for Medill as a good program. Columbia is a little old-fashioned, yes. But it has a fabulous alumni base and it's NYC - the home of media companies. Now it's up to you to choose between Medill and Columbia

Nope, you can definitely ask for an extension. Explain your dilemma honestly and ask. No issues with that. They know what situation you are in. I've got extensions from NYU and Stanford for my journalism program because I am awaiting funding decisions.

I've been accepted as well, but without any funding. Did you guys/gals get any funding?

Accepting scholarship aid and rejecting

Would it be considered really unprofessional to do so? Is it a potential career risk? -
I am told rent will itself cost $1,500 to $2,000 a month. The rest depends on how much and what you eat.

CMU SV ECE vs TAMU Computer Engineering(CSE)
grindian replied to jazzjk's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Is funding a priority for you? Has CMU given you good funding? CMU seems a better program and is also a better location, career wise. I think, for a computer engineer, taking on a loan (depends on how much you want to) makes sense to go to CMU because future prospects are very bright as compared to other programs (journalism, for example). -
Reject the first offer on the website and write a short email if you feel the need to. Reject the second one and send a more detailed explanation.
