  1. Call them man. Phone calls are way easier, though way more expensive. I called people whenever I had doubts
  2. Hmm you can tell them your financial situation or tell them if you have better offers from anyone else. check this: http://prelaw-guru.com/blog/how-to-negotiate-scholarships/
  3. I've got 2-2.5 months (not kidding). Pick a date by which you would be in a position to make a decision. Don't think too much about how it affects them. They will take care of that. But they're generally very helpful
  4. They require a sealed transcript from your university, with an envelope signed and sealed by the registrar. What you sent during the application probably counted as an unofficial transcript.
  5. You've not mentioned how much scholarship, if any, the universities have offered you. Disclosure: I have absolutely no idea about your field, but sometimes it's the money that can help the final decision.
  6. Have you any offers from any other universities? Maybe you can bargain. See this link for reference: http://prelaw-guru.com/blog/how-to-negotiate-scholarships/
  7. I've got deadline extensions. It is possible. Schools are ready to give it if you make your case properly
  8. Columbia is $1,000 and it doesn't even count in your fee
  9. A friend of mine got an RA position after he landed at CMU for his robotics MS program. Are you an international?
  10. I am from India. I'd say go to UIUC to further your horizons and gain a global perspective. If you're troubled with funding, only then consider IIT-M/IIT-D
  11. Both are good programs but since you have friends in LA, you seem better placed there.
  12. Also, I've spoken to people who graduated from Stanford. They said it's much harder to get job opportunities for journalism in Palo Alto. East Coast is where the concentration is
  13. Hmm USC is probably one level down the list. Cornell seems good and I don't think the M Eng would matter much. Try speaking to someone from UT Austin/Cornell
  14. This means they can deny me one?
  15. Hmm you're not considering Cornell? NYC is a very expensive place to stay.
  16. It's a bit tough to get a job in Europe, from what I hear. Easier for engineers to get a job in the US, depending on your stream.
  17. I'd say if you aren't attracted by the Stanford professors and curriculum, leave it. Medill is VERY good, and has an equally good name among news organizations. There is no doubt about this. I have spoken to several alumni and both vouch for Medill as a good program. Columbia is a little old-fashioned, yes. But it has a fabulous alumni base and it's NYC - the home of media companies. Now it's up to you to choose between Medill and Columbia
  18. Nope, you can definitely ask for an extension. Explain your dilemma honestly and ask. No issues with that. They know what situation you are in. I've got extensions from NYU and Stanford for my journalism program because I am awaiting funding decisions.
  19. I've been accepted as well, but without any funding. Did you guys/gals get any funding?
  20. Would it be considered really unprofessional to do so? Is it a potential career risk?
  21. I am told rent will itself cost $1,500 to $2,000 a month. The rest depends on how much and what you eat.
  22. Is funding a priority for you? Has CMU given you good funding? CMU seems a better program and is also a better location, career wise. I think, for a computer engineer, taking on a loan (depends on how much you want to) makes sense to go to CMU because future prospects are very bright as compared to other programs (journalism, for example).
  23. Reject the first offer on the website and write a short email if you feel the need to. Reject the second one and send a more detailed explanation.
