  1. Background: Last year I applied to several doctorate programs but was rejected from every school (Teachers College, WashU, Harvard, NYU, etc...). My gpa/gre scores are too low for doctorate programs. I was accepted into a top masters program which I will complete at the end of summer with MA Education Leadership. I have been taking 21credits a semester so that I can complete the masters in one year (3.96gpa). I'm interested in getting my doctorate in either education leadership or sociology. Question 1: I have an option of writing a thesis or taking the comprehensive test. Writing the thesis would take me another semester, so is it worth it?? Question 2: I applied to one doctorate program in December at Northeastern University in Boston and was accepted with a full scholarship to begin this fall. I imagined myself studying at Teachers College, Harvard, NYU, or Penn so its hard to process Northeastern Univ. The thing is that it would be FREE!!! I would likely go into some serious debt at my dream schools. I might not be able to get into one of my dream schools. Although I have a high Masters grade point average, my gre scores are still low. Should I go to Northeastern or go into debt for my dream school?? Any advice would be much appreciated!!
  2. Your right. If you have no undergrad debt getting into a reputable graduate school is a great investment. Best of luck to you
  3. IMHO Teachers College costs too much for a degree that won't pay that much. I especially do not think it is worth it if you plan on staying in the south bc I bet there network is most powerful in the East and Midwest. If I were you I would consider a good southern state school bc it will save you money, and get you the degree that you want....I would suggest focusing your PS on your experience as a first generation college student. Use that topic to discuss what challenges you faced that most other students don't worry about. You could even talk about some reform ideas you have in helping first generation college students. good luck !!!
  4. Amelapay,I got the email too. I applied to Harvard but I am definitely not getting in (GRE score waaaay too low for even the masters program). The email was sent to EVERYONE that applied to the EdD or EdLD programs.

  6. Hello fellow educators, I have noticed that in the result section that very few are leaving their stats. Lets start an anonymous history of info about applicants so that future generations can get a sense of where they should apply and where they shouldn't waste their money (Feel free to round your stats if you don't feel comfortable releasing your exact stats) GRE Score: GPA: Work Experience: Undergrad Institution(Public, Private, Ivy, etc..): Research Experience: Applying for PhD or Masters: Program: What Schools Are You Applying To: Acceptances:
