  1. @scaredapplicant @oneagain Thought you guys might be interested- So I called Columbia admissions to find out more about the waitlisting process, and they said when a space opens up, the faculty goes through the waitlist and re-evaluates each applicant to see who would be a good fit. I tried asking her around how many spaces open up based on previous years but she didn't know (she seemed a bit clueless and had to keep putting me on hold to ask other people), and that people will be contacted as spaces open up all the way up to August.
  2. Ah, I see. Thanks a lot for your input, it really helps me in making a decision. I can see how resources would be especially limiting for people who aren't working with painting. I hope you're able to go to the program of your choice this year!
  3. Thanks for the reply! I agree with many of the things you said, my interviewers also told me I would also struggle finding others interested in the concepts I'm dealing with in my work. I also found the work during open studios a bit limited in medium? I didn't see as much variety as I would have liked to see...If you don't mind, could I ask you one more question? What aspects of the program made you think it seems structured to be an extension of undergrad? I'm trying to decide if I want to go, but it's being really difficult to make up my mind.
  4. @oneagain Did you hear back from Hunter? And what was your take on the program and your interview? I'm curious to know.
  5. No news, I checked my email and application just in case, nothing came. Maybe this means all the waitlisted people are being contacted now and rejections will be going out last?
  6. Thanks! What's some of their strange administrative practices? I know I never got this 'thank you email' that they supposedly sent out to their interviewees, but other than that I haven't really come across anything weird aside from what just happened. I feel like what just happened to me was really unprofessional and it makes me more wary of the program. Also, I didn't get the greatest impression of Sarah when I was there, I mean she seemed nice enough but...I don't know. I might still end up accepting their offer though.
  7. uhhh so I guess I'm accepted to Hunter actually, I got another email this morning saying to check my application and the letter changed to a letter of acceptance. I called Sarah and she said there must have been some kind of error, the acceptance letter is the right one. @oneagain I asked if all acceptance letters went out yesterday, she said she sent all accepted applicants to be confirmed by the Dean last Friday, and they sent acceptance notifications yesterday/might still be sending them. She also said all rejection notifications had already gone out last Monday, so if you didn't hear anything I feel like you most likely got in!
  8. Do you know if it was someone who had interviewed with them? Or maybe it was the initial rejection but they just got around to posting it now? I'm not sure if they do look for a very specific kind of artist but I did notice when I was at their open studios there wasn't as much new media...? And they specifically told me their resources for that were not the best after I told them my work was heading in a direction where I was looking to incorporate digital components. Other than that I thought my interview went quite well and they threw me some questions that made me think more about my work in different ways. Maybe no news means you got accepted? I would maybe call them today and try to find out!
  9. I just called the admissions office and they asked me my department and my name, then told me admission decisions for the painting department haven't all gone out yet and that I should hear in 1 to 2 weeks. I'm going to assume that this means I'm either on the waitlist or been rejected. Not sure about other dpts but I'm assuming they're in similar situations. Also, I just got my rejection letter from Hunter. To be honest I'm feeling a bit relieved? Because I wasn't so sold when I went to my interview, but people around me kept telling me it was a really good program. One more thing, regarding RISD for those of you who might be curious, when I was at Hunter one of the fellow interviewees told me he got an acceptance call from RISD photo dpt without an interview, so I guess they do happen, though I'm guessing it's a rare thing. He told me he got an awesome funding package though, so maybe this dude was exceptionally good. (or maybe he was lying..?Don't see why he would though)
  10. I actually think I didn't do so hot on my interview, but what you said comforted me a bit, haha. I absolutely loved the program and faculty so it bums me out that I'll most likely be rejected, but at this point I've gotten over it and feel happy to even have gotten an interview. In any case working full steam on my work this year led me to some personal breakthroughs and progress in my art so I feel pretty optimistic about that. And I just checked my slideroom, it says 2016 Painting MFA. Yours?
  11. Nope, at this point I'm just waiting for my official rejection letter
  12. No problem at all, I know we're all suffering so I had to share this with you guys <3 Time to go stare at my phone some more...
  13. Hey i have a bit more news! I heard someone got an acceptance call yesterday and said Columbias still calling all week. They got in for painting but I imagine it's a similar situation with other departments.
