  1. Congrats!! I am also probably going to RISD. I don't know much about UCLA and VCU, but one of the reasons I liked RISD over other schools is that as MFA student, you have an opportunity to come up with a syllabus and teach a course, rather than just TA. Also, I don't know if you visited them, but their facilities are amazing. They have a separate building just for MFA students, which includes a huge wood workshop. There are separate wood workshops for undergrad students and other departments (such as furniture, etc.). So you won't have to compete to use the shop like other schools.
  2. Congrats!! I've been waitlisted. It's one of my top choices so I'm hoping for a slot to open up... What other schools did you apply to? - if you don't mind me asking
  3. Ahhhh I'm starting to think are they not admitting any sculpture students this year?!! lol It seems unlikely that they did send out interviews and coincidentally literally noone on this forum has heard. and thank you!! and congrats on your interviews/acceptances as well!
  4. Hi ~ sculpture applicant Yale, Northwestern, SAIC(interviewed) - rejected RISD, SMFA - accepted UPenn - interviewed and waiting Hunter - interviewed today Pratt - received interview invite, but I withdrew my application since I was already accepted to RISD. VCU, UCLA, MIT, Columbia - crickets... Assuming rejection for VCU, UCLA, and MIT. Did you apply to Columbia for Sculpture or Photo? I've been asking this in the MFA Freakout forum too, but it seems people heard back from Columbia for painting and photo, but noone for Sculpture|Expanded practice and it's driving me crazy ?
  5. In all my interviews, my interviewers came prepared - having read my SOP and descriptions. But I've heard that they might not read everything in the selection process of choosing who to interview, since they're reviewing so many portfolios. So perhaps, they read everything after sending out the interview invites. I also wrote a lot in my descriptions too. I applied for sculpture, so I attached multiple images per piece, and my descriptions usually continue and fill up the 3-4 image descriptions for each piece. I've gotten interviews at about half the places I applied for, so I don't think it was a drawback. It may also depend on what you're putting in the descriptions. For example, I come from math/science background, and a lot of my work is inspired by mathematical concepts that are probably not common knowledge. So I used the description boxes to explain those that I can't fit in my SOP. And I made sure I'm not including any redundant information. Hope this helps!
  6. I keep feeling like broken record but... anyone heard from Columbia's Sculpture program? It seems just about every other departments sent out interviews but sculpture...
  7. Yeah, I was surprised to find out the day of the interview that the faculty would be simultaneously interviewing so many students. I think most of my other interviews, it was the director of the program along with some other faculty interviewing everyone. Also, SAIC by far has the biggest class size (about 20 for sculpture alone), so in a way I expected better chance than some of the more smaller programs that only admit like 5 students lol. Anyways, I'm sure you'll get some good news soon! Best of luck!
  8. I also got rejection from SAIC after interview (sculpture). Which sort of came as a surprise because I felt I the interview went way better than the other schools I interviewed at, where I got acceptances from. Goes to show you never know what to expect I guess.. ?‍♀️
  9. I've decided to withdraw my application from Pratt, so hopefully someone from this forum will get my spot! Good luck!
  10. I actually got interview invite for Pratt integrated media earlier today. Which came as a surprise since I made a mistake when editing my SOP for Pratt and forgot to remove another school's name....and I realized my mistake after I already submitted. Perhaps they didn't ready it at all? LOL ? well if they didn't read it yet, they probably will now...
  11. Sure. I was offered about half of the tuition cost for both years + 5k TA position (I think someone else on this forum mentioned this as well). Does anyone have advice on how to negotiate for more? Anyone have experience in successful negotiations in the past? Thanks!!
  12. I just got an offer from RISD! I'm still waiting on other schools, but at least knowing I was accepted to one of my top choices is a huge relief. (I don't think I can bare to go through this process again) Hope everyone gets some good news soon!
  13. Aw that's a shame about Columbia... almost as bad as my Pratt mistake ? But congrats on your RISD offer. I'm still waiting to hear back after my interview ( I applied for sculpture). I don't think I've seen anyone post getting an offer after interviewing with the Sculpture department - so I'm holding out hope. Has anyone heard from RISD after interviewing with sculpture?
  14. I'm in the same boat.. just waiting. I know this year they combined Sculpture and New Genre into 1 department (and in the past those 2 departments sent interview invites on different days) so I wonder if that may also affect the time line. Also in the past I noticed people talking about the 'MFA' being taken off the slideroom title if you were rejected prior to interview? But noone in last year's forum mentioned this, so I wonder if that information is still valid. Has anyone noticed this?
  15. Wow congrats!! Can I ask when did you interview with SAIC? and what department? I just interviewed with them this past weekend for sculpture, so that seems awfully quick, as I was told to expect a decision by March 1.
