  1. I have already accepted an offer and I am scheduled to meet several professors and grad students next week. The GC scheduled an hour with each professor and I'm not quite sure what we're going to talk about during that time. What questions should I ask? Is there anything that I should be prepared for? Are there specific things that I should inquire about? Thanks!

    Reno, NV

Does anyone happen to know any specific areas of Reno that are ideal to live in? Are the areas immediately around UNR nice? Also, is Reno a bike-friendly city? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  4. This is my first year applying and I'm starting to think about what I will do differently if I need to apply again next year. For those who are applying for the second time, did you make any major changes to your application packet the second time around? Do you think it's worth re-taking the GRE (general and/or subject) if the current scores are just okay? I would greatly appreciate your words of wisdom! I haven't even been rejected yet, but I'm already sad and confused It doesn't hurt to have a back-up plan to prevent insanity! In any case, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my stress.
  5. I am still waiting to hear from all 7 schools that I applied to! Every week I hope for good news, but so far just lots of stress as I watch the results board pile-up the acceptanes. Hopefully this will be our week! Good luck, everyone!
  6. Thank you so much! I SO needed to hear this right now! False hope or not, it is easing my pain for the moment.
  7. I was doing okay coping until about five minutes ago. I just saw a few acceptances post for one of my top-choice schools and now I'm freaking out! How am I supposed to survive this weekend???!
  8. From what I've heard from my advisors, late February/early March is pretty standard for English programs but I'm holding out hope that I will get a miraculous admission notice any day now. "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one!" Good luck, everyone!
  9. Yep, finishing up my thesis now as well. Checking email every ten seconds makes it somewhat difficult to focus but I'm coping by using it as a distraction from the stress of waiting to hear from schools...if I'm stressing over the thesis then I have less time to worry about admission. Well, that and copious amounts of red wine coupled with a steady diet of ice cream and candy Good luck!
  10. Great post - congrats on your acceptance!!!
  11. My top choice is Stanford, followed by Berkeley, followed by anywhere that accepts me.
  12. Thanks for the info! Doesn't seem like the Peace Corps is getting much love...I guess I better just hope I get accepted somewhere. Good luck all!
  13. Anyone have any experience with the Peace Corps? It sounds like a good Plan B but I don't know if I can handle the two year commitment since I would like to apply again next year (if necessary). AmeriCorps might be a good alternative. Otherwise, I'm moving to France and spending my days eating baguettes and drinking wine while I figure out how to get a perfect score on the GRE.
  14. I completely understand! Despite my plan to stay calm until March, once a few acceptances appeared I became an email-checking-maniac! I'm trying to work on my thesis but I can't concentrate when I'm checking email and the results board every five minutes! I'm going to read some Thoreau in order to remind myself that there is life outside of school. Good luck, everyone! I'm sure we'll all get in!
