  1. Eh, it's all conjecture. You know the profs barely know where they are in the admit process.
  2. Also - I would try to listen more than speak. I find it's the students who are trying to sound informed and knowledgable (even if it comes from a good place) who most often run into the 'jerk' issue that Coach mentioned above.
  3. I think jeans and a button down are what you should wear (i.e. don't go all out like a first year MBA student). I think most of us will run the risk of being overdressed as opposed to underdressed.
  4. Thanks whirlibird. I'm still having trouble fully grasping what just happened. My anxiety is no more! Research, persevere, write, develop good relationships for letters, study for the gre, and you can do it!
  5. I would agree with that. The second half of February should be a whirlwind, and maybe the first week in March. Ahhh nervousness.
  6. Hmm. This really is a tough one. I will be doing political psychology and political behavior, applying in American Politics. Would you be more likely to get a job coming out of OSU, keeping the many other variables equivalent? On a separate note - significant other not thrilled about Columbus. How's Columbus' job market? Any points to sell her on?
  7. Say you're interested in experimental methods (lab/survey/field) and political psychology. These schools seem to be neck and neck, but which one do you choose? I'm thinking Minnesota holds the upper hand currently.
  8. Some applications ask: "Have you applied here before?" 1) Why do they ask? 2) Do they devalue your application if you say 'yes'? 3) What would be the repercussions of saying 'no' if you had applied before? I was just always curious about this. Thoughts?
  9. Can't attend, I'm halfway across the world unfortunately. It's my hometown, however, so I'll likely be accepting the offer and meeting with them in May. Just waiting for the verdict at a waitlisted school to make my decision. It's a bummer that it's basically coming down to finances. Let me know how the admit day goes!
  10. That's laughable! Why would they even extend an offer?
  11. Does anyone know how GWU works with regards to funding? I'm accepted to the PhD program, but they "were not able to give [me] funding at this time, but if it becomes available, will be considered." Does anyone know if that means tuition is covered and I have to come up with living, or whether you have to pay their astronomical tuition in addition to living?
  12. I got a funding package from UCSB, and if I accept the offer I'll be struggling financially. I know what I got is probably generous considering the budget crisis, but to be a resident with a funding package and still need to come up with money for tuition and living is frustrating. A job on the side will likely have to happen.
