The email was from Terry Harrison, Chair of the Admissions Committee, Department of Anthropology Don't be sad. I think you should wait a couple of days, if nothing, then email asking.

I didn't look like a generic email, it was too nice and personalized for that (or just me trying to feel special...) One more month of limbo.

Congratulations!! You can breathe and be happy now I am, in the other hand, waitlisted... "...let you know informally that you are among a small group of top-ranked candidates for which we do not have financial aid available to admit you in the first round of offers" I received an email where they told me almost 400 people applied (the highest amount ever), and they had to cut 20% the offers due to the crisis, and therefore offered only 11 positions (which I guess have been informed during the day). Oh, and that final decisions on my app would be made by the end of March. Buah!

I do maintain hope since only Cultural Anthropology has been posted... and I am applying for Bio Anthr. But it is not good sign my potential advisor has not replied to my last email (but did updated his facebook profile!). Damn, NYU is my perfect place
  5. Somebody should have told me. I had no idea. When I decided to apply to a graduate program in the US I just thought it was a matter of sending papers, and then magically around March, somebody would send a nice acceptance email, and that's it. But no! then I discovered there were interviews (awful and tricky interviews!), and then people being accepted and people being waitlisted, and then the results page of GradCafe, and now... I AM TOTALLY OBSESSED with knowing my outcomes! And also, pretty sorry for not putting more effort on those applications. I did discover this site too late. *thanks for letting me rant*

Oh... I can't wait that long... I am so nervous now, getting stressed by any new email message in my inbox, I can't live like this for two more weeks. Ugh! I just saw on the results page a person that was accepted by an email from his/her POI. So they must already know something!
  7. Hi there! I am an international applicant too, and had an skype interview a few days ago. I was told the questions were going to be about my research proposal and all similar questions posted here already, but no. Nothing like that. I was asked about theoretical issues in comparative biology (like species concepts), and what ifs related to me broadening my research (tell me an alternate research proposal, and another one, and a change of geographical setting, etc). It was very stressing for me since I really wasn't expecting those questions -I'd practiced all the possible questions about my research proposal, the pros and cons, everything!- and there was so much static in the call, that I couldn't understand them properly. Ugh, awful. Not even the classics, why do you want to come here? why are you a good fit? It felt as being in an oral exam.

Where did you find the information about the decisions date? I am searching their web and can't find a thing about it. I do hope they send their results many other programs of NYU have already announced their admittances, I am checking the results page every 5 minutes now...
  9. I just discover the gradcafe and what a place to vent the frustrations! I got my first rejection today, from an Ivy university, of course. They did offer me half finantial aid for their MSc program though. But I am not rich and won't accept it. I think I am dealing with it better than expected, since it was my first choice. Also, because I am in the middle of field work I can't get depressed in front of my team. In town... I supposed I would be crying and in need of SO, nice food and alcohol! Besides that, I got also an invitation for a skype interview (I am in Peru), I wasn't nervous about that, but NOW I am, since I have less choices.
  10. The professor I am applying to work with, made this video to entertain his undergraduate students and interest them in the study of human origins. He wrote the lyrics, made the video and sang the song. I love it! You have to watch "The Real Pliocene Hominin": http://www.youtube.c...h?v=8K-wa0046cQ. He is sooooo cool!
