  1. Well, he'll probably preface himself by telling them of his personal situation. And if he stands behind it, they will take his word. Maybe they'll ask him to expand, maybe they'll ask if he really feels you are a good fit, maybe they want to check and see that he really did write it. The point is, you shouldn't freak either way because you don't want the disappointment or the agonizing anticipation. Close you eyes and decide that if the Stanford gods really do like you enough to personally contact your PI for whatever reason, you are still in the running, regardless of the outcome.
  2. Honestly they fill up and they offer what is available. I think they are sensitive to the fact that this whole bonanza is a scheduling nightmare. Or they could be trying to save open spots on the first weekend for the people that can't go that second weekend. You got offered an interview before Christmas, what, 2-3 weeks after the deadline? They want you, suffice to say. EDIT: politics are probably/definitely involved. But I think from the tone of my invites that if they are extending the offer, they think you might be a good fit. Yale has like a gazillion (highly accurate estimate) people they could have chosen. Like I said, it could be trying to distribute the initial applicants to make room for those with tighter schedules or it could be that your track has "claimed" more of that day, or it could be a lottery. You got the interview, it's time to shine!
  3. I think people shouldn't stress about getting on the second weekend. I accepted the second weekend at UW Immunology (Feb 18 -20) because the week before that it conflicted with a Princeton interview I've committed to... and UW sends out rejections really quickly so I think that it depends on the program. What I'm saying is that it would be better to go to their second date (which can be like the next week) than to rearrange already accepted invites to get to the first weekend just because it's your top choice. If you get rejected because of a schedule conflict and the fact that you came a week later, is that program really the one for you? Or do you want one to consider the value of all reasonable applicants/interviewees before they decide who they want in their program? Just some hopefully helpful perspective.
  4. Guys, I looked at the results forum again for Harvard immunology... And in past years it has not been released all at once. In the past few years they have sent invites December 19th through December 22nd. I still have hope, especially since the person that posted about the interview invite today has not come to make themselves known.
  5. Lol when they showed her Ted talk in AP Bio I went home and watched it seven more times and then decided I wanted to do stuff like that for my career. I won't actually know what to do with myself if I meet her.
  6. I am so for this post I'm not even kidding. I'm not sure I believe it, SO COME AND PROVE ME WRONG
  7. It was a form email that I had to fill out paperwork. Don't worry, they're good at sending out rejects so you're still in the running.
  8. I got an interview with university of Washington immunology program!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I missed this comment before! Well, now my hope is back up! *hyperventilates a tiny bit* and I just booked my flights to Princeton! December 18th and 19th are going to be HAARRRRD
  10. The grand hotel!!!! Omg it's like a period mystery. So so good. You can watch hours of it and not get bored. And although I've not given up hope, I'm using it as an exercise in being grateful for what I do have.
  11. Thanks for the response. My edit says I found one on the results survey. I think I just didn't get one this time... and I'm trying to be okay with that. (It's like 50% working but still)
  12. Argggh has anyone who got a UCSF BMS invite had immunology as a top track? I'm kind of sad now. EDIT: Someone on the survey did. Now actually really sad. Oh well, fingers crossed for Harvard on Sunday!
  13. Nope lol I did not. My grades won't be out for like two weeks. I don't think it's a part of the initial review process. I'm still shocked I heard from them. My science idol who actually got me into science in high school, Bonnie bassler, is head of that program and I'm fangirling so hard right now
  14. Phone call. I actually missed it but then I called back and the lady sent me an email
  15. I got an interview at Princeton Molecular Biology!!!!!
  16. Take a breath, call them back. Apologize appropriately by saying you didn't have access to your phone and you are sorry for missing their calls. (FYI that's ALL you say... don't blubber.) Then say that you are excited to hear about their interest in your application and want to know what the next step forward is. Congratulations!
  17. Lol I'm just distracting myself before Christmas. It's partially working, so I'm only internally screaming for like 15 minutes a day.
  18. I didn't apply to BBS... I applied to the immunology program. So that's why I'm mildly concerned.
  19. Congratulations! I hope that doesn't mean anything bad for the other DMS programs...
  20. I was just saying what I saw on the survey. It still leaves me hope! I think virology is SUUUUPER small, though. Definitely smaller than neuro and probably immunology. Though now I'm curious and checking it as I type.
  21. yeah I hardly believe that. In past years, all DMS programs (including PiN) were on Dec 19th... and they were the only one to post that. Chalk it up to a troll, I think.
