O well, life goes on....worse things have happened to us all than getting rejected from a school. No worries, we've got more to hear from. I'm also going to assume rejection at this point for myself as well.
-
I didn't get a letter yet either.
-
OMGG I am STILL waiting! Happy valentines day everyone. Crossing my fingers I get a letter or email of some sort tomorrow...
-
I'm still waiting for painting at SAIC too!!! I'm in Virginia...if the letters were postmarked Feb 10th, then I would think I will get mine tomorrow!!! I'm not sure where you are located, but 3 days sounds about right from Chicago to DC. Mayybe 4 days.
-
I wish I had news or something to contribute to this ongoing conversation other than I hope I hear something tomorrow, and it's almost 1 am, I have to be up at 6 30, and I can't sleep because I'm anxiously waiting to check the mail tomorrow when I get home.
-
you got an email from them on a Sunday afternoon/ evening??! Anyways, congrats
-
Smack me again for being on here instead of focusing...but they haven't. Someone posted that they called Tyler, and they said they have already made decisions, but are going to send them out this week. Don't worry, I haven't heard anything yet either.

Someone needs to smack me if I keep posting and looking at this forum...I;ve got work to do, and keep procrastinating! It's hard to forget about it....especially when I know that schools like Tyler and SAIC have made their decisions on rejections and interviews already and I'm just waiting for them to arrive! I didn't say I KNEW for sure that last week would be the week, but I've def. been saying I thought I would hear something by this past Friday! LOL. I agree though, that I think this will be THE week!!!!! It's gotta be. I'm going to California next weekend, and I've got a friend to check the mail on Saturday and deliver me any news. If anyone needs to keep their mind off of things, this is funny: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/17/AR2007081700603.html I'm teaching a lesson on fantasy bug printmaking on Tuesday, and found this artist to show the 3rd graders....I thought it was pretty entertaining. I love when people make art in strange ways!
-
I agree with everyone who says they now hate Sundays. I feel like I'm the only one who has heard absolutely nothing, I really think that this week will be the week where I start to get some info!
-
inscho i really like your paintings. Especially when they get really textural with all the paint chunks and globs. I'm curious to know what artists you look at?
-
For painting? Maybe I'll get some kind of letter this week! Darned usps...they should operate on Sundays
-
True, it hasn't been that long. There's a lot of reasons why someone could have heard so early. We've gotta hear soon....the interviews are all March 9th! If I don't hear by like March 2nd, I'm going to call and ask.
-
Someone said they already heard even before the deadline via email....I submitted a few weeks before the deadline and have heard nothing. I'm thinking that's a bad sign
-
Soo weird!! They probably get more applicants for painting so is a bigger lottery ticket!
-
From looking at everyone's great work on their websites, I'm afraid maybe I was just a big fish in a little pond, or something like that! Maybe I should have waited a couple years to develop my work before applying! Yikes. O well. Congrats everyone with all these interviews!
-
Still have heard nothing from any of my schools :-( I'm trying to stay positive, but feel less hopeful every day.
-
You probably already interviewed, but it's OK to be a little nervous!! It can be a good thing! What helps me is to just think, the person on the other end is a human being just like you, they aren't any better than you, and they obviously like your art, and want to hear what you have to say, or else they wouldn't be interviewing u in the first place! Lastly, no one has ever died from nervousness, so think how great you will feel after u get it over with. be strong!
-
caraa: From what that says....it's pretty clear that a website alone was ok! I wouldn't lose sleep over it....I would just call tomorrow. Who knows...maybe there is even some kind of technology that they have that blocks you from seeing that they looked at your site. Or maybe it's their mistake, so letting them know that they forgot to check out the work will make them say, o crap! and then go do it.
-
Maybe they haven't looked at everyone's yet. I would email or call and ask.....i seems weird that a school would give the option of opting out of slideroom. Some of my schools required slideroom or a CD, and in addition they gave the option of including a url. When is the deadline? They may be reviewing applications as they come. Also, if the deadline just passed recently, there is the possibility that they haven't rounded up your rec. letters or transcripts yet. I called a school worried about that because they said my app was incomplete...and they said they would accept me as on time if they got my materials within 2 weeks of the deadline. This was because they got such a high volume of mail that transcripts and letters could float around for two weeks before being connected with the other materials in your name.

I'm thinking that most of us will hear something from somewhere within the next 9 or 10 days. How hard is it to not pick up the phone, call schools and be like "soooooo.....what's my status?!" You all will laugh, but I remember being a freshman in high school and getting cut from cheerleading tryouts and I cried for a day. Seems funny now, but I remember the extreme disappointment and don't wanna go through it again. I'll be happy even if I get accepted to 1 in ten, so I'm not even asking for much!

Yet another day without any word. I Paint Faces, I just had a good laugh reading your dream
-
u are lucky you've lost from the stress....I can barely squeeze into some of my pants that fit fine back in June! I had an actual dream that I was accepted to PAFA, and I got there, and it was awesome. No nightmares yet...only hopeful dreams, and only about PAFA for some reason.
-
According to the FAFSA, aren't you an independent if you turn 24 before 2012? I wonder why that form says differently.
-
I am going to look for teaching positions too....I am worried that I will get consumed with my teaching and forget about my true dream because I have an absolute BLAST with the kiddos. But, as much as I love teaching art, I don't feel complete without making my own work, and even if I do end up teaching, I want to be an artist as well, and no...it will not be a hobby. No matter what anyone says, I believe I can do both....Georgia Okeefe was an art teacher! That's what I tell everyone. I just know that in order to be both working artist and teacher, I need to start my art career first and go back to teaching a little later in life. Plus, I need to get the H*** out of Virginia because it's starting to bore me. PS Bethanyr I am considering being a teaching assistant rather than actual art teacher to start.....you might consider it too in the unfortunate event that things don't go right. Your work is great, so I'm sure that won't happen...but still. The reason is, because as a teaching assistant, you leave work behind after school...no lesson plans....no sample art projects...so you can go work in the studio after school. And because you still work in the school, it will be easier to get the art teacher job in the future if you want it. That's what I might do if I don't get accepted this year, so then I will have time to apply again either next year or for 2013. I spent 9.5 hours at school today......and I have a long night ahead of me making visuals for the lessons I'm teaching tomorrow....no way can I do this and my own artwork. I just made 5 self-portraits like Frida Kahlo for 5th grade tomorrow, and I miss doing my own art.

I feel the same way....if I had tons and tons of money...then post bacc would be awesome! Who wouldn't want to paint 24/7 in a structured environment with your own studio, professors to help you, and other artists to talk to constantly? But if you are going to have huge debt from it, then is it really worth it? It's just another way for schools to suck money from you. If you are broke, then you'd be much better off applying for residencies, or renting cheap studio space on your own. A post bacc program might help you get into an MFA program in the sense that it will help you develop your work and portfolio, but the mere fact that you attended won't influence any admissions decisions. I say, if you have the funds, go for the post bacc, but if not...it's not worth the debt.
