  1. Check this info out if you haven't already....
  2. OMG people, I am dyin here. I hate waiting. And I am starting to feel like I will be rejected from everywhere. I couldn't sleep last night because I was basically feeling sick from thinking I might hear from a school today...but still nothing. PS everyone keeps asking about when we should hear from schools...I posted a bunch of info on that a few pages back for those who didn't see it.
  3. Tyler hasn't notified anyone for painting yet. Last year they didn't tell anyone anything for painting until Feb 13th....so we will probably hear next week.
  4. One of my professors went there. She has cool work...a figurative painter. I don't know much else about it, but I heard that they have a lot of scholarships, and you can't go wrong with new york city
  5. As rejection letters come, everyone should remember and keep this in mind: You could be one of the greatest painters/ sculptures/ whatevers in the world and still get rejection letters!! I visited several schools...and from what I have learned, they may even LOVE your work and STILL not accept you. A) you may be doing work that is very different from what others in that program are doing, and they may feel you won't fit in. The type of work also changes every year!! In 2010 maybe a bunch of figurative painters all graduated for example, and if you are a figurative painter you would then possibly have no one to relate to! you may be doing work that is too similar to what others in the program are doing!! If they already have 2 landscape painters, for example, and you paint landscapes....they may choose the figurative painter instead of you, to have a little more variety. (learned this at MICA) C) I heard that some schools like Tyler will actually reject people who's work is too developed....if you're body of work is super consistent to the point where you are doing similar stuff over and over...they may say, "why would you wanna come to grad school when you already know exactly what you are doing?!" D) they may like your work, but they may feel that your personal goals as an artist are not consistent with what their program has to offer...or how their program is structured! E) I visited Hunter, and they told me that sometimes they choose the wrong applicants on accident. They said they have had situations where someone's work looks different in their photographs, and when they get accepted and come to school it turns out to be different in real life. Point is.....as disappointing as it is, don't be discouraged, being rejected doesn't mean that you don't have what it takes.

  7. I hate to admit it, but I haven't painted in almost 6 WEEKS!! Depressing I know!!! The only art I have done is sample art projects for little kids and posters for my lessons. The week after I finished apps I spent working and sleeping....and then I had gained a few lbs from the stress of applications and now I'm spending my studio time at the gym until I get back in shape!! I attempted to paint in my bedroom one day, but then got dizzy and sick with the oil paints (bad ventillation) and decided to stop. Now the past 4 weeks, between applications, the gym, school, and writing lesson plans, I haven't had the time :-(. Now I gotta study for a big test to finish my teaching license. So double no time :-( Once I finish getting my license in May I will have more time again...can't wait for spring breakkk!!! Haven't had any rejection letters yet...but the parents are definitely getting annoyed by my obsessing over it. Don't feel bad about not getting into yale....there are like 1500 applicants! and it's partially a lottery ticket for sure...every school is. It's also probably hard for me to comprehend the disappointment because i haven't experienced it yet. You just can't let it bring u down!!
  8. Does anyone know if the following schools have interviews: PAFA UDelaware UT Austin Rutgers ???? I would call and ask, but at this point I don't want to annoy them with unnecessary questioning
  9. My list says between 2/13 and 2/19...sooo probably this coming week or the week after! I think sculpture people said they heard that they were finalists via email, but I'm not sure. When I visited Tyler, they said that they did not have formal interviews, they skype you instead....but from what people are saying now, maybe I was mis-informed, or maybe painting is different.
  10. I searched the forum, from last year, and in my state of anticipation I wrote down some of the dates of painting acceptances/ rejections from last year, so it's kind of a heads up timeline! I only searched the schools that I applied to, and only for painting, but I'll post what I found.... SAIC: *by 2/25 some people still had heard nothing a all interview request: 2/11 (mail) rejections: 2/18 (mail) 3/20 (after being interviewed) 2/22 (with an offer for Post Bacc) acceptances: 3/18, 3/21 (after interviews) Tyler: rejection: 2/13 (mail) finalist: 2/19 UT Austin: rejection: 2/16 (mail) waitlisted: 2/28 I don't know if hey have interviews? PAFA: acceptance: 2/22, 2/23 (mail) I asked if they had interviews on my tour...but now I can't remember if they do or not... CCNY: *people still had not heard by 3/24 Purchase: rejection: 3/13 (but the person had not been interviewed) UDelaware: decisions were all made around 2/19...I don't know if there were interviews. SVA: rejection: 3/30 (mail) acceptance: 2/24-ish (mail) Hunter: *By 3/10, some people still had heard nothing at all ...not even interviews....but there were interviews. rejections: 3/8, 3/22, 3/18 (via online system) acceptance: 4/1, 4/8, 3/18 (phone calls) interview notifications: around 3/9 Rutgers: *some people had heard nothing by 3/20....I don't know if there are interviews... rejection: 3/8
  11. Got an email from PAFA today saying that they were going to be reviewing applications within the next couple weeks! I wish they would hurry up!
  12. i didn't apply to MICA, but good luck!!! My fingers are crossed for everyone.
  13. racuerex, what kind of performance art do you do? Like video stuff? I'm curious because I've never actually talked to a performance artist before.
  14. I'm posting way too much, and should be doing work right now....but I just wanna say I am SO glad I found this forum, because I have ZERO friends, or anyone I know that have applied for an MFA! I was the ONLY one from my school who applied for painting this year...and the fact that I had to help my professors with the envelopes shows they only write letters once in a blue moon. Outside this website, I'm in my own MFA application bubble
  15. True! and congrats on your acceptance!!
  16. you're right. I know that in the end, I will have absolutely no regrets because I worked so hard, and I feel like I put 100% effort into everything I did. I'm actually amazed at how hard I worked...I've never worked so hard for something before....besides school, but school is something everyone is forced to do.
  17. Thanks, you are right....they are probably sooo incredibly busy reviewing portfolios. It was PAFA....I realllly hope I get in there, I feel like I would fit in well with their program. When I went for a portfolio review they said "this is definitely not a bad portfolio," so I'm hopeful that I may have a chance! This snow on the east coast is killing me!!! Firstly it made me have like 4 snowdays from school in which I sat around my house (unable to paint because my parents will be pissed if I ruin their house) and just thought about this the whole time! lol. and secondly, I think the snow up north is delaying all the application decisions and letters.
  18. Can I just say...I think I am going to be sick. I can't take any more of this waiting, and I am already feeling disappointed like maybe I should have applied to some schools that were less selective instead of shooting so high for all of them.
  19. for what program? painting? soo, that means SAIC doesn't interview? I haven't been rejected yet....but of course letters in the mail take longer
  20. OOO I sent out an email thank you...think I should send a written one too?
  21. if you address and stamp envelopes for your recommenders, then it won't overburden them....they just write the same letter over and over, and you can email them the adresses so they can just copy and paste onto the letters. Plus, when you become a professor or something, it comes with the job description to write letters. Plus hal of the letters are online, so all they have to do is copy, paste and submit.
  22. so, I don't know what to think of this: I went for a portfolio review at one school, and I kept in contact with the admissions person who I talked to, via email. After I sent in my app, I got an email from him saying they received my materials, (and because I had asked a question about burning the CD portfolio) he offered to check on my CD and make sure it worked alright, and if not he would let me know. Sooooo, there was no word back from him.... so I emailed back about 10 days before the deadline saying that I assumed my CD did work, but I was just double checking with him to make sure it did so I would have time to send a new one....well, the deadline passed today, and I still never heard back :-( I had a situation when I applied to college where I called to ask a school if they had all my materials, and they said, "umm, actually you are already rejected." I'm hoping that I'm not already rejected this time. It's pointless to worry about this, but can't help it.
  23. I cringe when I hink about by SAIC statement as well. I realized after I sent it that I spelled "three-dementional" like this, with a "t" instead of "s." I have to say I feel like a dumbass, and I'm angry at my spellcheck for failing me.
  24. I'm having the same feelings as you! Sometimes I feel confident about it, and feel good about my work, obviously because I put everything into it. Other times I just picture the admissions people looking at my work and rolling their eyes, or laughing. Regardless of whether they love it or hate it...you just have to keep doing what you do! If you aren't making art for yourself, then why are you doing it, right?
