My application was considered under committee 5, there were 93 applications 20 of which received offers, with the cut off being 3.89.

I was ranked 35th overall with 3.4's across the board which is pretty useless information since there's no clear area to improve. Heartbroken

I'm so sorry the news wasn't what you hoped. Ranked 35/94 is still pretty awesome and these awards appear to be somewhat arbitrary. I know for my SSHRC doctorate award I did not win the first time around but did the second time, with very little change to my application. Again, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Take good care of yourself today.

OK ... first off, your university admin - the folks who manage your scholarship and who are responsible for administering your funds are required to send you those scholarship report requests and nag you to get those in - and in fact, at my university you actually can't proceed with defense arrangements until all ancilary papaerwork is completed (including any outstanding scholarship reporting that they manage). I'm not sure how you got all the way to the defense process without them checking in on this stuff - sounds like they dropped the ball. They're pretty officious about at most universities - because, for one thing, THEY are out a lot of big time funding if they're not doing THEIR job to 'manage' grad students who don't have the same practices in place for 'reporting' as tenured faculty receiving big time grants. When SSHRC talks about reporting they're talking about actual grants - not scholarships. From what I gather from my colleagues who have been on SSHRC evaluation committees, stuff like scholarship reporting isn't less of an issue than: not especially enthusiastic letters of support, poor track record of publication, feasibility of the research and strong supporting rationale - and then there's the issue of SSHRC's own funding 'priority areas' which are of course always useful to peek at before proposing a project. Don't let the SSHRC-holes get you down - it's a terrible process that does all sorts of symbolic violence because they don't bother letting anybody know why they didn't win the pony ... keep your head up!

Thanks. I did get emails and completed all annual reporting. It was the final achievement report I did not get in before the deadline because I did not realize it was outstanding. I didn’t receive any reminders about it from the U or SSHRC. I’ll stay hopeful for a day or two until I receive my letter. Thanks again! ?

I have been silently monitoring these pages over the last few weeks, as I'm sure many of us have, and eagerly awaiting "the results". I have also signed up for an account after reading the most recent contributions.

Dear Anthrogal and anyone else who needs to hear it: Whatever happens next, know you did your best. I hear your stress, and I affirm YOU. But...even if you wish you could go back in time and change things,  I just want to remind you that you can ALWAYS move forward. YOU get to choose the kind of life you want to have, and importantly, YOU get to choose the kind of person you want to be.

Know that whatever great things you do in the world...you WILL do, and not because you received or didn't received SSHRC-PD. Finally, and more than anything, please - be kind to yourself.

    With you in solidarity.

Thank you! ❤️ I have to say that I am grateful and humbled by the support given on this board. Good luck to everyone!

  4. Thanks so much for the kind words. I appreciate it. At this point, there’s not much to do but wait. I don’t mind being unsuccessful going up against others as I know you and everyone else who have applied are incredible researchers. It’s losing to my own error that’s unbelievably frustrating. Good luck and I hope you’re successful! Looking forward to reading everyone’s good news this week! ❤️

Why don't you guys just e-mail SSHRC? they'll probably get back to you a bit ahead of the results arriving in the mail and the info will help future applicants too. Fingers crossed for everyone.

I did email them Friday looking for clarification on the policy (I.e. am I automatically disqualified or can still be awarded postdoc conditional on submission of outstanding report). They told me to wait for the letter. I responded asking for just general clarification on SSHRC policy and they told me they will not respond to any questions until I have my letter. So frustrating! I didn’t realize the final report was outstanding (I received reminder emails and completed all other reporting). I just have to wait and see what the letter says.

    Hi everyone,

The first thing of "My Portfolio" section is:

    REMINDER

To be eligible to apply for any SSHRC grant, applicants must have submitted any outstanding final research or activity reports for previous SSHRC grants.

    I hope it helps you.

This is exactly what has me terrified.

  7. I received mine in 2016 and received the email regarding the changing format of the final report in January of 2018 (my award ended in May 2019). I’m not sure if it’s new (I’m not sure where my notice of award is - probably in a box as I moved). Hopefully it was instituted after so you’re in the clear.

That's why I was saying before that it wouldn't affect. I received a notification to hand it a report two years ago, but there was never a final one. And, when I applied last year for the postdoc and received the response in March, there was no mention at all about being disqualified because of no final report. Stop freaking out, fellow nerds!

I do hope you are right and that it’s the overachiever, crazy-making nerd brain that has me freaking out. But it says ‘ineligible to hold funding’. I’m going to hold onto the hope I’m overreacting (academics are notorious for forgetting details like these kinds of reports right?). So glad I posted now. You’ve talked me down off the ledge.

What!? I didn't even know this achievement report was even a thing. I finished my doctoral fellowship almost two years ago. Do they not send out an email reminder to do the report? I am so terrified now that this will disqualify me... what terrible news

Nope I didn’t get an email reminder. I was talking with someone and they mentioned doing their report. I knew I had never done one. Went to the website and sure enough...link to achievement report for cgs-d under talent competitions and then the notification that I outlined above. I even rechecked my email but I received nothing from the U or SSHRC reminding me I had a report due or even that I missed the deadline. I received an email from SSHRC in January of 2018 indicating the new format of the final report with a link, but that was so long ago I of course totally forgot. I’m sorry you are in the same boat. Hopefully it’s not that we were immediately disqualified but that if we were awarded a postdoc no funds will be released until the outstanding reports are submitted. I’m so, so frustrated that SSHRC refused to provide clarification on the policy to me when I asked for it.  Now I’m in limbo and terrified. Sorry if I did that to you as well.

  10. Thank you. Maybe there is hope but on the reporting page it states ‘if you have outstanding reporting requirements you are ineligible for future funding until outstanding reports are complete’. My only glimpse of hope is that if I was successful that my holding an award is conditional on my fulfilling the outstanding requirements (which I did already once I realized my mistake). It sounds to me like ‘ineligible’ suggests I was automatically disqualified. I emailed SSHRC on Friday to ask for clarification on the policy and they told me I would have to wait for my letter before they would answer any questions. I’m assuming the worst.

  11. Good luck everyone. I think I am automatically out of luck. I realized (literally yesterday when the letters went out) that I had never submitted my final report for my doctoral award which I believe automatically disqualifies me. I was so worried about defence, revisions, and submitting postdoc and employment applications that I totally forgot about it. You have 6 months, but my 6 months were up at the end of November. I'm feeling pretty devastated that I am going to lose out based on my own ineptitude rather than the quality of my application (although I may very well have been unsuccessful anyway). I hope letters come quickly for you all and that you have great success.

Hi everyone. I know it's early but has anyone heard from sshrc? Is it true they use regular mail for notifications, not email?

Yes they still use snail mail. They will probably mail at the very end of February (if they’re on time) so hopefully we’ll hear first week of March. Good luck everyone!

  13. Okay - so I heard back from my U. They definitely have the results but would not release them to me. They did say e-mails from our university would go out in the "next day or two". I know last year I received my e-mail after I had gotten my letter. Does this mean letters are already on the way??? AGGGHHHHH!!! The not knowing is killing me and making it difficult to focus on my other work. I should be writing, I should be writing......
