  1. "you'll get in at School A at least for sure" raised my eyebrows upon hearing that.
  2. Simmons offered 15k for the entire 2-yr program. Case offered 26k scholarship plus 12k field stipend (total 38k for 2-yr). BC offered 20k scholarship renewable per year. These are all scholarship awards. With living expenses I'd say it's roughly 70k to 100k depending on location and program. I'm becoming disillusioned with the financial costs to be honest with you. :/ I highly recommend BC and Case both schools seem very generous and their admissions and financial aid staff are personable and professional.
  3. I did my FAFSA January 1st (and had sent it to BC) but I haven't submitted BC's Graduate Financial Aid Application/Validation. Yes, been living in Boston for 4 years now. The living expenses are worrying me. I currently nanny too so I can potentially continue that since it's 12-15 hours a week. Ahhh decisions decisions. Should I decide to attend BC, I look forward to meeting you and the rest as well!
  4. With that being said I need to work really hard and be on academic lockdown in the next 2 years. Haha!
  5. Hi Everyone! Congratulations to all those accepted to BC! Wooo. This is a general question. When I received the mail last week, it included a scholarship award letter but it's only for 2014 - 2015. It did say "Scholarships are normally renewed for the second year of study, contingent upon satisfactory performance in the program." I have two questions-- 1. Is it safe to assume that I will be getting the same amount in 2015 - 2016? Cos if it is, that covers a lot of tuition and the remaining I could use my AmeriCorps award from 2 years of service and some savings. So in the end, I don't have to apply for loans and be in debt forever. Like some applicants have mentioned in the forum it's not practical to borrow more than 50k for a degree that will pay 40-50k your first year as a MSW. 2. So if I decide to not sign up for loans, do I still have to submit a financial aid application so I can renew my award or the scholarship award is separate? I read that GSSW scholarships don't need another application because they're reviewed during admissions but I just want to make sure I'm not missing a step.
  6. Thanks! I got my mail acceptance letters fr both BC and Simmons. Simmons gave me 15k and BC offered a really generous scholarship. I'm waiting for Case Western if I'm accepted and see if they're offering funding that could compete with BC's. Then I'd have to factor in cost of living in boston vs Cleveland. Having lived in boston for 4 yrs, full time grad student just seems so impossible. If I decide to attend BC, I can't wait to meet other students soon!
  7. I received an email today informing of my acceptance to BC. I'm waiting for Case Western and Simmons. Simmons has been urging me to submit financial aid forms without a formal offer, so I'm unsure about this. I submitted all my applications late December and my recommendations weren't completely received until Jan 31. But yay that my first grad school acceptance was from my top choice. Now I can live sans too much anxiety. Good luck to y'all!
  8. Hi everyone, new here. I'm a graduating senior this August, and have started looking into graduate programs a long time ago. I went through phases: from my background/degree (Art History), Museum Education (which for a while I thought was my path), and now shifted to Elementary Education. Facts: Graduating with a BA in Art History from a low-tier state university in Portland, OR. Current GPA is 3.62. However, I have two quarters left, including the current term, to improve that. Sadly, I am not involved with organizations since I was either working part-time or taking too many classes. I currently intern at a local museum as an education intern (with hopes that that working in museums would up my chances to MuseumEd programs). Last, my senior capstone/project will involve working with a community program that works with low-income high school students. Future: Things to do after graduation.. I really don't want to travel right after. Instead I want to use my "one year off" wisely... so I've been compiling a list of elementary schools that have job openings for Teacher's Assistant positions for this coming school year, and will start applying to those soon. If I don't get a job, I'm excited to volunteer/intern in different schools full-time, even try to continue my internship with the museum. My plan is to go back to school Fall 2011. These are the schools with Elementary Education/Childhood Education programs that I'm really interested in: Columbia (TC), Simmons, Tufts, BU, NYU, Lewis & Clark (hopefully I get in so I don't have to move), and GWU Thoughts on the schools? What are my chances of getting in? Correct me if I'm wrong, TC, NYU, and L&C don't require the GREs... and I'm pretty sure on the TC website it says "not required (with not in bold and italicized). For those in the TC program, do they prefer that you stick to the requirements and not worry about GREs (I know this sounds like a stupid question)? Thanks, E.
