  2. Hey all, Has anyone heard word from UOregon neuro through the psychology department? Thanks!
  3. Thanks, dude! Here's to hoping! edited to make the quote not seem ridiculously long...
  4. Buck up, my comrades in anxiety! This uncertainty is what you will experience most of your careers! A former lab mate told me that.
  5. I had a roommate for an interview weekend once. It's not bad. Everyone there *should* be and generally are professional.
  6. Congrats, dude! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an email from them...
  7. I pooled some money with my lab mates yesterday to buy some Mega Millions tickets last night. My hope was that it would offset my application costs ($600). We won $6. Fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Mega Millions!
  8. Colleagues of mine that went the MS route agree that their MS was a waste of time, especially when a Ph.D. was their end goal. Even in technical positions, MS applicants don't make that much more than BS applicants.
  9. I misspelled a POI's name too. Still waiting. I feel like a huge turd because of it. I considered writing to apologize but was advised not to for that would have called more attention to the error. Ack.
  10. This is round 3 for me as well. First time applying, received one interview, didn't get in post interview. Round 2- Shot for the moon and ended up with radio silence the whole time. Round 3, I've focused on fit. Hopefully 5 years of professional research experience will count for something...
  11. If he had at least included specific examples to support his claims, I would say keep it. There is not much meat in that LOR. When are your deadlines? If you are close to your deadlines and your other two letters are fine, I say just push forward.
  12. Shoot. I didn't have the most current page open. Sorry for ruining the game.
  13. Shoot. I didn't have the most current page open. Sorry for ruining the game.
  14. Oof. Waiting is the worst. In happier news, I just realized Duke combines the best GRE scores from every section. That brightened my day a little

  16. Man, I feel like I'm in the same boat. I am also applying to neuro PhD programs. Is this your first round of applications? This is my second time around. I specifically targeted good fit programs that do not have hard cutoffs. Other strategy changes for me were joining a better lab, getting more publications, and a more focused idea of what I want to do. I also learned how to program. If I don't get in this year, I'm going for a master's program to make myself a more competitive applicant. Even if that does not lead to a PhD program, it will put me in a better position to get a better, perhaps more stable lab job. In regards to sustaining yourself financially, I hear you. A graduate education, whether PhD or master's program, is an investment in your career. Sometimes the future benefits outweigh the upfront costs. If this is something you truly want to do, make it happen through any means necessary.
