  1. Decided to go to Auburn for a MS Degree in Civil Engineering... I got a GRA position, tuition waived and 1200 stipend... What can I expect living at Auburn on that budget? I come from another country... Do you have any recommendations on housing? Will I need a car to move around in Auburn? I also have some money saved by the way but would prefer not to use it...
  2. Here is my current profile, I want to start on the Spring Semester. Undergrad Institution: International, South AmericaMajor(s): Civil Engineering Minor(s): Construction ManagementGPA in Major: 3.65Overall GPA: 3.4Position in Class: Top 10%, Perfect score for the graduation project. Got a research award upon graduation for being among the best projects in the UniversityType of Student: International graduateGRE Scores (revised/old version):Q:156V: 152W: 4TOEFL: 109Research Experience: Graduation Thesis research, laboratory internship. Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Construction supervisor. Applying to Where:University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (Transportation) (Second best in the country) University of Texas at Austin (Transportation) (Top 10 program) Auburn University (Pavements and Materials) (Top 50 program, but among the best in the specific field of Asphalt and Pavement Technology) Got in to UIUC with no funding at least until the fall. Got rejected at University of Texas. Still waiting on Auburn. Illinois was my dream school and was stunned when they sent their admission, will probably go there unless Auburn comes up soon with some amazing funding offer.
  3. Moving from another country to UIUC to start on the Spring Semester for graduate studies. A couple of questions come to mind: Any opinion on the city? What neighborhood or area do you recommend living in? Are people nice? I am 29 years old, is there a lot of people on my age range or mainly undergrads and older people? Is it close enough to Chicago to do a weekend or a couple of days getaway in the big city? Thanks for your help guys
  4. Go for it. GRE is not everything. Its the whole package that matters. I can assure you, I got in a Top 3 program with not so great GRE scores, but everything else was spot on (recommendations, GPA, SoP).
  5. Hello, I am an international student. I am a Civil Engineer that will be starting on the spring semester my graduate studies to get a MS in Civil Engineering (Transportation) at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. UIUC has a great program that has been ranked among the US top 3 for civil Engineering the last couple of years (Actually #2). I would be interested in starting a professional carreer in the US once I complete my studies. My expectation is to obtain the MS degree just by the time I am 30. What kind of job, salary or lifestyle do you think I could aspire to once I am done with my graduate studies, considering I am a foreigner and also that my degree will come from a top 3 program.
  6. Hello, I am from South America and I have applied for a spring admission at several graduate programs in civil engineering. Most of the institutions I was interested in offered spring admissions and didn't advise against them, the only one that didn't offer admission in this term was Georgia, I think. I even contacted a professor at one university about research assistantships and he was open about the possibility, saying that we could be in touch in case I got admitted. Readings this boards I see some people believe that spring admissions are an extremely rare occurrence, how accurate is this? I mean I know it is less frequent than fall admissions but to what degree?
  7. hey guys, I would appreciate your help with this as well. I sent you a PM if you could help me with any critique or suggestion it would be great.
  8. I am an international, just applied for spring admission at University of Illinois, Texas, and Auburn University... Specialty is Transportation Engineering, particularly Pavements Engineering that's only reason why I applied to Auburn, it has a killer program and facilities for asphalt research
  9. hey, left my email there hope to get it soon. Thanks for everything
