  1. Personally, I have no insight. But I'll refer you to this here book by Stephen Pinker which may shed some light... although it may contradict your FAT theory. The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined
  2. Hi, This link has a bunch of the ranked programs that offer phds. they may be the same ones that you listed. http://www.adpccj.com/surveys.html
  3. Hello, Personally, I think it depends on the school(s) you are planning to apply to. Each school may have different standards/expectations for what they want. One of my recommendation letter writers mentioned to me that I should try to improve my GRE for a certain school that I was applying to (she seemed to be familiar with that school). While I do agree with Partinrn, I think you have plenty of time to try again (if you feel like it), which may boost your chances of getting into a specific school you want and obtaining funding. Otherwise, If you do not have your heart set on any particular school, I think your chances of getting in and funded somewhere are pretty good with those scores. *This is all from my personal experience in applying and information I gleaned through this forum. I have pasted a link that includes surveys of the incoming classes if you'd care to go through it. http://www.adpccj.com/
  4. Great! Thanks for that info.
  5. I am! But I think we already talked about that. What are your interests within biosocial crim btw? I think (changes a lot) I would like to study self-control, nutrition and neurocrim (head trauma?)--not sure, though. Also, do you know the length of the PhD program at UC with and without a master's? I have completed my MA but I wouldn't mind retaking some courses to better assimilate with the faculty/program at UC.
  6. The only school I applied to that may still take application (although without funding) is FSU. According to their page, they take applications until July 1 (http://criminology.fsu.edu/degrees/graduate-programs/doctoral-program/ph-d-admission-requirements/). Funding deadline was in January. Good luck!
  7. @wannabeDr @Partinrn Hey guys! I'm really hoping to do more RA than TA for my assistantship and also really want to work with Dr. Barnes. Any advice about how I could increase my chances with either? THanks!
  8. You may be on a wait list, so they didn't make a decision on your app yet? Idk I'd think if it was a rejection you would have found it. I just received an email (first and only) from them saying my decision is available online. The letter was listed under "decision letter" online. Update: good luck!
  9. UPenn just got back to me, and I think all other applicants. Not accepted. I will be going to Cincy in the fall. Hope to see some of you guys at ASC. We should create some sort of identifier to find each other (e.g. a secret handshake or something).
  10. Along the same lines as said before, but I would add familiarizing yourself with a particular piece of recent research from the faculty member you'd like to work with. That will give you something to extra to talk about/ask questions about.
  11. Someone mentioned to me at least year's asc that Dr. Beaver is great at helping his students obtain funding. Good luck!
  12. My updates: Received acceptance from U of Cincinnati Friday. Called UPenn today and was told that decisions will go out within the next two weeks. According to threads from the past, UPenn does interviews for their candidates (some of?) so I'm not optimistic about my chances there since I haven't heard a peep from them.
  13. Haha so many of us... Or maybe we're just the rowdiest..
  14. I agree. They have chosen the 15. But i was just saying that they have yet to inform all fifteen, I think.
  15. Driving, so I'll keep this short. Confirmed: UC applicants chosen, emails not sent yet.
