And back to waiting! If you haven't heard from a school at this point, is there a good chance you're wait-listed?

Just a thought, and sorry if this suggestion increases the complexity, but you could install Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ I have experience partitioning a hard drive in Windows and Linux, but no experience with Macs. I could try helping if you run into any trouble, though.

I'm sitting here doing homework, wondering if the people posting acceptances from wait-lists are getting these emails right now, or earlier in the day.
-
You too!
-
Spoke too soon. Just got a rejection.
-
I still haven't heard anything from four schools and waitlisted at a fifth. Only email I've gotten today was from a recruiter about an entry level IT position, which I might have considered if I hadn't quit the IT field to pursue a PhD in planetary sciences.
-
You never know, sending that clip as an explanation might make them chuckle. Of course, I'm not seriously suggesting you do this.

Still no word from four schools. In limbo on the waitlist at another, after what seemed like a really good phone call with a professor on Friday. I can't take it anymore!

A silly question

@thebignc93 Is that a 3.0 overall or for the particular semester? -

Posted this in the waitlist thread but haven't gotten a response. Figured I'd try here, too. I had a call with the professor on Friday and it went very well, apart from my lack asking any meaningful questions. He started the call by telling me what I pretty much already knew--that they had done their first round of acceptances, that I was waitlisted, and would need to wait until people start either accepting or declining offers on April 15th to get an idea if I'd be accepted or not. Then he asked about my research interests, which I described briefly, including a potential topic I'd like to investigate. That topic aligned really well with a project that the professor just gained involvement recently, which apparently was after he looked through applications. We talked a bit about how this particular area has a lot of open questions that need to be solved soon. It sounds like I might be getting an acceptance. He emailed me a bit after the phone call ended, saying he had sent a message to the admissions committee. He also told me to feel free to ask any questions that come up. So, I've got a few questions in mind now. A few of the school's current grad students mention in their personal pages that they work with multiple professors, in some cases on fairly dissimilar studies. At this point, would it be fine for me to ask the professor if working in two separate labs would help out with funding? There's another topic I could pursue with another professor, but it's not 100% what my passion is. I'm also thinking about asking if he would recommend me taking a summer course at my original undergrad school, which I may need to do anyway. Should I even send these questions at this point? Or just wait and see what happens? This is the only school I've heard from, with no response from four others. I'd dearly like to go to this school, so I want to do whatever I can do to maximize my chances. -

@ETRXRock Yeah, it's a professor at ASU, but one I haven't had much contact with. His research is exactly what I want to do. I've been counting down the seconds until tomorrow. -

Thanks, @geologist! I just have three rejections so far, with decisions still to come from five schools including Arizona State. The other professor there responded earlier saying we should talk. I've got a phone call scheduled with him on Friday afternoon, so hopefully it'll go well! And congrats again, @CornUltimatum. Turning out to be a very good cycle for you! -

I haven't had much contact with the professors I want to work with. I sent them both an email Friday but only one has responded. He said I have a strong application, but he doesn't have any obvious funding for what I want to do. I'm wondering if I should contact another another professor whose research is similar to my interests, if not exact. -

Thanks. You too! Sounds like there are a few of us. -
Nice. Makes three of us then, at least. So that counts as being on a wait-list?
-
Were you the one who posted about ASU being impressed with your application?

@emmuhhs I suppose it's possible that a professor could have RA funding, so all hope might not be lost. I just got an email from the coordinator at Arizona State, saying they're impressed with my application but haven't found funding yet. She encouraged me to contact faculty I'm interested in working with to discuss the situation. My spirits are up a bit, but how likely is they'll find funding? I also just saw someone post on the results page basically the same thing. -

For anyone still waiting on CU Boulder, I saw this on the results page: To the poster below! I emailed the admissions office for the Geoscience Department -- they apologized for how long it has been taking but assured me that applicants would hear back by "the beginning of Spring (April)" -- so let's hope that means in the next week! This waiting game is torture -
Been away from this thread for a while. Glad to see people are getting good news! I still haven't heard from five programs, all of which have rejected people this cycle. Let's hope if I'm on a waitlist at one of them, other people's GRFP results will help me out.

Washington's Oceanography department says they expect to make decisions by mid-March. There were a few rejections posted in early February and they had an open house weekend earlier this month. I still haven't heard anything. Would it be safe to say I've been wait listed? Also, @CornUltimatum, was it you who posted the update from Arizona State earlier this week? If so, thanks. -
Yeah, me too. Still haven't heard from five programs.
