MSW Fall 2016 CSULB, CSULA, CSUDH, CSUF, USC

Login to MyCSUDH and use the search feature that you usually use to enroll in classes. Make sure to select Fall 2016, and use MSW as the department. It will tell you all classes for next semester. -

Awesome! I've already started looking at the schedule for the first semester and I'm planning out what days, times, and professors I want to take. -

I called CSUDH yesterday and spoke with Sharon. She said she would bump up my application and review it within a few days so I could get back to CSULA by the deadline. She called me back today and offered me acceptance to the 2 year program! It looks like I’ll be continuing my education as a Toro! -

So I received a letter from CSULA saying they referred me to the 3 year part time program and I would need to submit my letter of intent by May 23rd. This is not my first choice, but I would take it if I got no other offers. I'm still waiting to hear from CSUDH so I'm not sure what to do. Can I accept the offer from CSULA and later change my mind if CSUDH accepts me to the 2 year program? I sent an email to CSUDH on Thursday explaining the situation, but I haven't heard back. -

Has anyone heard from CSULA within the last few weeks? I still haven't received any information about my application which was submitted back in January. The school did send me an email to let me know about my financial aid award being revised. -
Honestly, I have no idea why. Unless the students and professors have attended, or worked at both schools, they can't really speak to which program is best. Maybe it's a case of the grass is always greener.

I used to hear that CSULB was better, but after speaking to a lot of people, I've come to realize they are pretty equal in terms of the program and what you learn/experience. The MSW programs are currently ranked about the same, with CSULA maybe one or two positions higher. I think either school is a great choice and for me, it would come down to what sort of environment I prefer, and which is closer to where I will be living. If you can, try to visit both schools and get a feel for the environment.

Has anyone applying to CSULA for the 2 year program heard any updates? I submitted my application in January and still haven't heard a word from them. -

I hope that means I'll be hearing from them soon. I submitted my application on 1/13, but my final letter wasn't turned in til the day before applications were due. I received a confirmation email the same day. -

Congrats! When did you submit your application to CSUDH? -
The two year unpaid internship is what nearly kept me from applying to MSW programs. I was able to work during undergrad, so I graduated with no debt and a decent amount of savings. I'm pretty sure I'll be using my savings for living expenses and loans for tuition and other school stuff. If I wasn't living at home I don't think I would even bother with grad school since I would have to take out an even bigger loan for living expenses. I'm so amazed at the people who are taking on an insane amount of debt for a field that doesn't pay well. Interns not being paid is a terrible thing and I really wish more people would speak out about it. We see the occasional article about how unfair it is, but nothing is ever done about it.

I'm guessing people applying for the one year program won't have to wait as long as the people applying for the 2 year program. Hopefully, you will hear soon. When did you submit your application to CSUDH? Did they send you anything prior to your acceptance? I got my Bachelors from CSUDH and I really liked the school, so while it isn't my first choice, I would be happy to keep going there. -

I emailed the admissions coordinator at CSULA and she said they still have a ways to go with applications. She said she suspects letters will be going out as late as early June. -

Sekai how do you like the CSULA campus? I've applied to the same schools as you but for the two year programs. Initially CSULB was my first choice, but the more I read about CSULA it's making me second guess that.
