  1. Hi everyone, I am planning on applying to Gallaudet University. I was planning on taking ASL for my major but due to a change in degree requirements, I wasn't able to take it this term. I know that GU doesn't require American Sign Language as a prerequisite for admission, but I feel not having experience and exposure is a serious, if not fatal, disadvantage. I am wondering, however, how feasible that a) GU would actually take me into consideration as a candidate for their program and b) that I would be able to actually participate in the program and navigate GU while learning ASL. Is it even worth applying? If so, how can I frame my lack of experience in a positive way? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Woohoo! Congrats, esopha! Out of all the schools I've applied to, UMD is the first one to start sending out acceptances. I can't decide if I feel excited or even more anxious than before. Haha.
  3. Anybody else applying to Worcester? If so, how did you send in your GRE scores? I can't seem to find specific directions anywhere on there website and there's no code listed! Applications due on February 1st and I'm thinking it may be too late to get those scores in if I have to send them via snail mail.
  4. Hi everyone. Feeling pretty discouraged right now & could use a chance to vent. Yesterday I took the GRE. Despite relearning math from scratch, months of studying w magoosh & taking 2 practice tests, the timed conditions got to me and whole test turned into a incomhrehensible jargon-filled nightmare. I'm bitterly disappointed with my quant score and resent all the time I put into learning math & the nuances of the gre. I didn't expect to do great, but I wanted to least get the 150. I got a 149. More than anything, I'm disappointed I didn't meet my own goal but I'm also concerned that this score will hurt my chances. However, I have seen many people on the admission results section get accepted with similar scores. Am I being overdramatic here? Is a low quant score really that much of a barrier? What have y'all heard from schools besides what's on edfind? It it would be nice to have a frank discussion because I know a lot of people are in the same boat & this subject seems to be shrouded in mystery.
  5. So, I worried for months about whether I would be able to get 3 LOR writers. Since the beginning of my post-bacc course work, I strategically thought about the best way to ask my targeted professors and tried to to give them a good reasons to say 'yes' when I asked. Well, it worked! Now, I found myself blessed with the dilemma of having 4 LOR writers willing to write me a strong letters. 3 from CSD profs and 1 from an audiologist who supervised my volunteer work as a newborn hearing screener (I volunteered at a research hospital with a good reputation). So, who should I choose? Is 3 CSD profs always the most desirable or should I put my other letter from my supervisor in the mix for variety? What about applying for the grad program for the school I'm attending right now? Here some stats that might be useful. My undergraduate GPA is weak: 3.47. CSD GPA is 3.90. Taking GRE late this November and although I'm strong in verbal, I'll be lucky to get above the 50th percentile in quant.
