I just received a rejection. Email came through from ApplyYourself and the decision was posted on the application site as well.
-
This has whole affair has been rather disappointing... In any case, I called Yale GSAS today and they said that "it's not a technical issue" (referring to the lack of an upload to ApplyYourself). They stated that while GSAS may have received decisions, and that GSAS itself has not uploaded decisions just yet for Yale Jackson. UPDATE: An administrative assistant at Jackson stated that "there was some confusion" on GSAS's part on the timeline to release all materials. It was "her understanding" that emails were sent out to admitted students (no indication on specifically all admits) and that letters were put in the mail as well.

I see. Did every admit here get a personal email? If so, then it's likely that the lack of an email indicates a rejection for applicants like myself. If there are any admits who were admitted via the online portal, that might contradict this narrative however. On the Facebook Page, Yale seemed to have implied that it notified all admitted students at the same time: https://www.facebook.com/jackson.institute.for.global.affairs/

Everyone: I just called the Jackson Institute and they say that all decisions (rejections, acceptances, wait-list) should have been uploaded to the page. Those of us who have not received a decision need to call Yale's Graduate School (not Jackson) to resolve the technical issues. If the rejections are auto-generated by GSAS, then it's likely that those of us who haven't gotten anything have been rejected. If not, and the adcoms control the acceptances/rejections, then this problem should have no bearing on our decisions. The rep I called wasn't clear on the exact nature of the situation, so there's no way to tell.

I applied to Yale Jackson and haven't heard back. Are they releasing all the acceptances first, rejects later, or in some other order? I was wait-listed. I'm kind of surprised since I'm an applicant going straight out of undergrad but I'm also subtly disappointed at the same time. And I believe that all individuals are guaranteed an assistantship--at least that's how it's worked for past classes. The assignment process might be similar to Indiana, where students are matched with one based on their skills and where appointments may be appealed on a case-by-case basis.

Indiana University Bloomington SPEA 2016

I've been admitted with a fellowship. I applied early--way back in November--and I originally heard about my admission offer in December. I'm a bit hesitant to accept their offer however for two reasons: UT Austin's full tuition offer when combined with an assistantship is likely to leave a smaller financial gap, and I'm still deciding between two fields to enter straight out of undergrad. For your information, while some admissions officers say that a 75% tuition remission is their typical highest offer, the "75%" seems to be thrown around loosely. I called them about my offer and they said that the two-thirds tuition remission might technically be their higher offer this year--they really mean to say that "roughly 75%" is their highest offer apparently. I'm not sure if that's actually the case as there may have been other students given higher awards that the representative wasn't aware of, but she subsequently noted that 75% remission is "pretty close" to the two-thirds remission that I received, indicating how 75% is just a rough guideline. Best of luck to you on the merit aid and admissions process! -
All: I followed up for a third time and they said that the adcom's timing has been off due to some issues. They didn't specify whether this was due to a surge of applicants (or whether that was a thing this year) or some other issue. They hope to finalize decisions by today but they also said that even if they finish by today, the email might not be sent out tomorrow. So even after they finalize the demographics of the next class, there'll be some technical hurdles that might keep them from sending emails out before next week.

Have some individuals, like yourself, already received such an email? On TheGradCafe survey page, there hasn't been any applicants indicating that they've been notified of their decision some time prior to the official date.

Princeton WWS's blog stated that MPA decisions would be released by March 11th. http://wws.princeton.edu/admissions/wws-blog/item/wws-graduate-admissions-timeline-2016

I called yesterday (February 29) and they said at that time that they were trying to release them that day but wouldn't be successful. I called them again today and they said that it should be "any day now", likely sometime this week. So at this point, I wouldn't be refreshing my email repeatedly on any specific day--just know that it's probably coming this week.

I called the DC campus and they said that they do somewhat of a "rolling" admissions process, releasing decisions as the review process is completed for each individual application. They also confirmed however that they'd likely be done reviewing by March 15 and that no application reviewed at later dates would be at a disadvantage for scholarships or admissions as long as the app was submitted on time. So I suppose that's good for those of us who haven't heard back.

I received a full tuition scholarship from LBJ as well. Personally, I think it's possible to dramatically reduce debt while improving job prospects by taking on a paid internship in Austin. The university is just a mile away from the Capitol building, which is great for networking and opportunities to perhaps work as a part-time legislative aid, a research assistant at UT, and/or in some other position. This combined with the full tuition offer might cover half of the living costs if you live frugally like a poor college student. I wouldn't choose La Follette for the sake of its rankings. The biggest benefits of UW are that 1) it's in Wisconsin's capital city and 2) it's offering you a full ride. Other than that, UW and UT Austin are both well-known as state flagship schools. They have strong, but not elite postgraduate and undergraduate reputations. Distinguishing between the two is far more difficult than comparing UC Berkeley with UT Austin.

CMU MSPPM (DC track) is one of my top choices since the 30 hr/week internship program would help me self-fund my education and eliminate fears of poor job prospects after graduation. I haven't yet been accepted but I called the admissions office and they said that they've been pretty firm on releasing decisions by March 15. They also said that the merit scholarships are decided by the admissions committee; the financial aid committee only reviews requests for loans and work study. This seems a bit confusing as now it makes even less sense for scholarships to be released when decisions haven't been released since it's clear that both issues are the adcom's responsibility.
-
@shrimps, are you saying that you have already been awarded a scholarship from CMU? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to send us an admit letter before merit scholarship announcements? I've gotten nothing from them thus far.

Graduate Institute Geneva (IHEID) - Fall 2016
pubpol101 replied to Mangrovia's topic in Meet and Greet
It's been a while since I've checked on this thread, but for your information, I'm an MDev admit without a scholarship and I was given a room on campus (one of the 700 CHF/month rooms). I'm from the US though, so considering how many others here are EU applicants, that was probably the determining factor. -
I was admitted without a scholarship for the MDev program. I will be finishing a BS (a four year degree) in biomedical sciences from a tier 3 state school after two years of undergraduate work. I had a lot of credits in fields from science to history and economics through AP exams, shortening my time as an undergrad. My GPA is 3.76 on a 4.0 scale, and I've had a number of extracurricular experiences related to the field--writing for the Huffington Post and The Hill, creating groups to lobby Congress for international development, leading fundraising for Ebola relief, and two research experiences, one in biophysics and another on Boko Haram and Nigerian governance.

Graduate Institute Geneva (IHEID) - Fall 2016

I received one today as well. I thought is was in response to my request for a reevaluation (I don't have enough funds to even pay the deposit), but it seems more like a bit of a mass-email slip-up -
I called them and they said that they usually don't change scholarship decisions. However, I told them of my extremely precarious situation (I don't even have enough money to pay the deposit when IHEID is one of my top choices.........) and they said that they would forward my concerns to the committee and get back with me sometime later. If anyone is interested in joining, I've created a Facebook group for IHEID admits: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1558087277850417/

Is there anyone here who has been admitted with a scholarship or tuition waiver? Can anyone confirm that us admittees' scholarship refusals are final?
-
I've been admitted to the MDev program, but scholarship was refused. I thought scholarship decisions were supposed to come out in March. Does anyone know if this refusal is permanent or if there's any way to appeal the decision? I may not be able to attend without a scholarship.
-
I emailed IHEID and decisions are set to be released next week according to the admissions office.
-
Once you save it, you won't be able to change it until after your application is submitted with the required motivation statement and etc. Then, I believe on the application follow-up, you can send reminders or change your references. That's how I was able to add my third reference.

I'm applying to public policy schools like HKS, WWS, and etc., and for some of my applications I listed my PCAT score (Pharmacy College equivalent of MCAT, GRE, etc.), for which I scored in the 99th percentile. I scored a 329 on the GRE. Should I remove this? And for schools I've already applied to, should I be submitting replacement CVs with the score eliminated? I thought that leaving it in there might reinforce my status as a unique applicant, but now, I'm pretty sure that the test score will simply make the schools second-guess my commitment to public policy. I'm applying during my second year of college (undergrad 2014-2016), with a STEM degree, so I'm feeling like I certainly don't need any more reason for schools to doubt my commitment given my already tenuous status.
