I'm so glad that this forum is here! I'm a semi-finalist for the study/research grant in Poland (actually received the recommendation notification while having a beer in downtown Warsaw, which was nice).
And thus begins the waiting game...
I looked into it, but didn't end up applying because the deadline passed while I was abroad and I....forgot (oops)
I grew up about an hour and a half from Toronto--it's a fantastic city, and I've heard nothing but good things about the school. I think their funding package is a little low for international students but I'm not sure on the details.
Earlier today I received an email from a POI at my top choice grad school. He said that my application has been recommended for acceptance by the department, but that the Graduate Admissions Committee has the final say. I understand the process, and the email was pretty informal, but I can't help but be *super* excited that I even got such a positive email from the department in the first place. Does anyone have experience with a situation like this/know what the odds are of being recommended by the department but then not offered admission?
Good morning everyone! I'm writing a SoP for University of Michigan's History PhD program, and it was recommended to me (by a non-academic source) to include the name of a close family friend and mentor in my application, who went to UM and frequently returns as a distinguished alum. He wasn't in my program, but a little name dropping never hurt, right? What are your thoughts?
