  1. I really appreciate this resource! Super glad to see the majority of my prospective schools mentioned here.
  2. FEBURGATORY, I CAN'T. How am I supposed to handle 11 more hours of today?? I heard through the grapevine that my top choice program was supposed to respond this week, and "this week" is rapidly ending!
  3. @alain Hold on to hope!! It's only just past noon EST--plenty of time left in the working day!
  4. I just had my interview as well, and had much the same experience. Unfortunately they were not willing (or able) to reschedule my interview-- I'm sure they're interviewing a lot of candidates, so it makes sense to me, and fortunately I was able to end my first class early/start my second class late in order to step out for a Skype interview. The interview was actually so succinct and straightforward that I couldn't say at all if it helped my chances! Best of luck to you and all other applicants as well!
  5. Has anyone got any advice on when to book travel for open house weekends? On one hand, I don't want to wait too long for travel prices to become astronomical. On the other hand my concern is that, in the event I'm admitted to more than one school, the open house weekends could coincide and I'll regret having booked so early.
  6. Same here!! I'm so tired of waiting for the inevitable--I will feel such peace when I've heard back from all 8 schools.
  7. I know someone who was on a Fulbright in Greece during her PhD application season--Princeton actually flew her out from Athens just to do an interview (and then proceeded not to admit her)! So, at least, there are some schools that will reimburse an international flight.
  8. Congrats to all of the Wisconsin admits! Is anyone else going to the admitted students' weekend?
  9. I'm in a similar position! Had a successful interview yesterday, and heard back weeks ago from the POI at my top choice that my application would be recommended by the department but, nothing official yet! best of luck to you and your (hopefully brief) waiting!
  10. I think it went just fine! it was with a POI I mentioned in my SOP--he primarily seemed interested to hear about my proposed research, language background, and whether or not I would be interested in a FLAS fellowship. also, thanks @insidethesun! and I'm also a Yale applicant (Modern Europe)! quite obviously a bit of a reach, but I think it's a reasonably good fit for my research interests.
  11. just had my interview with Pitt! I was told that decisions will come from their history department in about two weeks.
  12. I remember going over the school names multiple times for each one, but of course now I'm rechecking all of them! Not sure what I'd do if I found an error, though...maybe it's best not to know.
  13. Just double checked to make sure I got that right in my SOP for Indiana--fortunately, I did. looks like I just mixed it up in my signature!
  14. I feel exactly the same--every email causes a roller coaster of emotions, and I've never been so tempted to unsubscribe from every listserv I've ever been on.
  15. happy February 1st, everyone! it looks like we may be nearing the final stages of the waiting game!
  16. wowza, congrats to the Stanford admit!! mega kudos!
  17. True, true, you've got a point!! I got my first notification (rejection) while at work on Thursday, with an 8am class to teach/prepare for the next day, and I absolutely refused to open it at that time, knowing it was a rejection, so I suppose it may have well just come Friday night for all the good it did me to get it early.
  18. I can't think of anything worse than getting a notification at 7:30pm on a Friday...except maybe waking up to a whole inbox full of them! My greatest fear for Monday morning.
  19. congrats @ northwestern admits!! it seems like an awesome program, kudos to you all!
  20. I can never tell if waiting is easier or harder on the weekends...from one point of view, I know I probably won't receive any news on the weekend, so I should be able to free my mind and enjoy other things....but on the other hand....what IF.....and congrats to everyone receiving positive news this early in the game!!
  21. Proud co-victim of the Berkeley massacre, 2016. and--many congrats to the NYU admit!! I'm finishing my MA there at the moment, so get in touch if you have any questions about New York/the school!
  22. oy, I just got the email from Berkeley and based on the results page I think I know what it says, but....I have a date tonight and my first day of teaching tomorrow and I refuse to face the music until I can sit down and brood like a proper applicant. ?
  23. aaah, thanks for the info! looking forward to a rousing week of nail biting, stress eating, and strong wine......
  24. I received the initial notification on the 15th, and the interview invite yesterday. The coordinator for Fulbright Poland hasn't responded to me re: changing the interview time though, so not sure that's a good sign--but here's hoping for the best! It's a 15 minute Skype interview, and the email was pretty straightforward, with an invitation to interview, assigned timeslot, and request for my skype login. And thanks a ton for the advice! It's a really helpful perspective and much appreciated! ("Why Poland" is a question I have to answer every time I explain my work, so hopefully I can field that one by this point....)
  25. I just got an email requesting a Skype interview with the committee in Poland; naturally they scheduled my interview for the one hour of the week when I'm teaching a class and really truly am not available. Here's hoping they'll be flexible! Has anyone got any interview tips?
