  1. i did last week.. i declined though, so hopefully you'll hear from them soon
  2. Stanford Biosciences or MIT for a PhD in Biology? I'm having trouble deciding between the two!!! Both are top programs and provide rigorous training. Both have many labs that I'm interested in working in. From talking to people, I"m told it just comes down to preference for environment (west coast vs. east coast). What are people's thoughts on which program is better? Appreciate any advice!
  3. I'm also having this issue on deciding between east coast and west coast schools, so if anyone has advice, would greatly appreciate... breaker746, I see actually that we have similar school offers to decide on (besides Harvard :P).
  4. I interviewed in February, and have yet to hear anything back haha.
  5. For writing emails to decline offers, is it alright to not say where you plan on attending?
  6. which school are you leaning towards? i dunno how to make a decision rahh
  7. ah ok! thanks for letting me know! has anyone interviewing at stanford bioscience immunology gotten their list of interviewers yet??!
  8. what, really??!! which program in stanford biosciences are you interviewing for? i am in stanford immuno but have not gotten any list of the interviewers yet
  9. For those interviewing at Stanford Biosciences later this week: has anyone gotten their interview schedules yet??? I hope they send out in advance!
  10. im thinking about ucsf bms....but not sure yet.. which one are you leaning towards?
  11. does anybody know when mit biology will send out decisions?
  12. with offers like that, how do you make the final decision on where to go??
  13. Rah, no one answered..... phone tag it is *SIGHHH. I hope they call back lol
  14. Missed a call from a school I interviewed at....they didn't leave a message.... do I call back?? or just wait for them to call back? Will they call back???? AHHH>>>>>
  15. If you decide to reapply next year, how will your application will be different from the one you submitted this year? In my experience, it is difficult to find tech work for just a year. The PI/lab spends resources/time to train you and have the expectation for you to stay ~2 years, so they may not be happy if you leave within a year, unless you plan to tell them that straight up and see what they say. I have been a technician at a school I want to attend (a couple years ago), but it still did not work out in my favor. I know a couple other people in similar boat in this application cycle where it didn't work out. Still, it probably varies case by case. I don't think it helps much unless the PI you tech for is on admissions or something.
  16. On note of bad days, I just came down with the flu and have to travel for an interview this Thurs. Why, God, Why?! :'(
  17. The most consistent/frequent question I had during interviews was: What other schools are you interviewing at? Every faculty asked this!!
  18. I'm committed to doing 7 interview weekends in a row as well, plus 1 Skype. It's a lot, but I'm excited about traveling to all those places and learning more about the schools/programs. I'll be exhausted probably by the end, but I feel it's worth it given all the work it's taken to get to this point. Beyond that, I have another school that if I decide to interview at I'd have to do the back-to-back interview thing in a week (as you described), which I'm not sure I want to do. I'd have a long flight to get from one school to the other, and then once I land, I would have to go straight to the other school. I might be a zombie at that point, so I am thinking about asking for Skype if possible. If not, I think I'll have to cancel it.
  19. Yeah re interview schedules, I was talking about the list of the faculty who will be interviewing with you. I hope they share this info early...
