Yes and yes! All of the other interviewees were super qualified (and generally cool people) so I totally understand why I was waitlisted! I'm just a ball of nerves because so far I have two waitlists, one rejection, and one masters acceptance instead of PhD. Only waiting on one more, so hopefully either that or one of the waitlists works out! Good luck to you!!!

Thanks. I'm in a similar situation: an acceptance but nothing on funding just yet, and this. Waiting for it all to be over. Yet to begin writing my masters thesis and probably won't until it's all sorted. And good luck to you too!

Hey everyone! I've lurked here forever, but I'm finally joining the conversation with a plea...

Has anyone been accepted to the Ed Policy PhD program and isn't planning to attend? Or know anyone in that situation? I'm on the waitlist and am trying to wait patiently but I'm practically ripping my hair out from the nerves!!! If anyone isn't attending, I'd love it if you could let me know (or better yet, let the program know!)

Good luck to everyone else stuck in purgatory! And congrats to all who got in!!!

You went for the doctoral weekend?  Did you get a good feeling from it? I couldn't attend the weekend (int'l applicant) so had an interview - a great one IMO, but now, I'm on the waitlist for the Quantitative Methods programme :(.

I'm getting a bit out of my depth here, I am not well-read on feminist theory (one of you experts pls halp). If anything, I might look at it as affirmative action in speech. From another perspective (and this relates to my comment on the asymmetry above), men aren't going to feel nearly as excluded, if at all, by female pronouns, because it hasn't been a cultural norm for them to be repressed. The converse does not apply. So using male pronouns definitely hurts, female pronouns not so much.

But I agree that even the binary terms can be exclusive, especially when used in conjunction like that.

I think affirmative action and positive discrimination are the same thing. "discrimination" though makes affirmative action sound a lot more biased than I think it is.

  4. Grew up with masculine pronouns being used in the universal context but I've since begun to to use "s/he". Now I think of it, is "s/he" also problematic given it assumes it's all binary?

@gughok And is "she" fine because it's a form of "positive discrimination"?

OH!  Whew!  That's good to know, that it wasn't GSE Berkeley, I mean.  I feel like this application process has turned me into a neurotic mess!

Congratulations on your waitlist status, btw!  I can't believe I forgot to put that in my previous post!

Made me chuckle - getting congratulated. I guess it's something but I had a fantastic interview so I feel rather disappointed :(. You're not alone, but you can visit this topic for relief: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/51574-favorite-rejection-quotes-from-the-results-page/:)

And thanks! Where are my manners?!

Thanks!  I'm starting to get really anxious waiting!

This is the last decision that I'm waiting for.  I've been rejected by the other three universities.  Was it a bad plan to only put out four applications?  Maybe.  Honestly, though, pursuing a PhD involves packing up my life, leaving my career, and postponing a few pretty significant life goals, so I decided to only apply to places that I would drop everything for.

Oh! I'm not writing about an application to GSE Berkeley. Truly sorry if I misled you or any other person. Good luck. I also applied to four schools - 1a/1w/2r - and maybe I should have applied to more but location matters for me. Applying to more usually makes sense though but your reasoning is valid.

@juanmesh Can I ask if they called you or emailed you?

Generic email with link to application website. That was it. Why?

  8. Just got on a wait-list. After my interview experience, I think I feel like John Kerry getting swiftboated by folks with whom he felt he'd struck a bond. Congrats to admitted students and hopefully, they reach their decisions soon. As an international applicant, I don't know how long I can wait for - my letter says "months". My one other offer remains unfunded for now but I may have to take it some time after I (hopefully) get funding information.

@aebh615, I didn't have a formal interview. My POI reached out in January to schedule Skype call.  It was very short notice but I wasn't asked any tough questions. He asked if I had committed to another program,  as well as a few more questions about my personal background and how it relates to my research goals. He and the other QME professors thought I could qualify for some fellowships and wanted to maximize my chances of getting it. I didn't get an official offer until a couple of weeks later but in retrospect the call seemed like an unofficial acceptance.

This sounds a little like a call I had elsewhere http://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/70077-penn-gse-2016/?do=findComment&comment=1058336057

I really do hope my story ends similarly.

  10. Willing to expand this from Teaching & Learning to all OSU EHE programmes? Applied to PhD in Quantitative Research, Evaluation & Measurement. Heard about admission but nothing on funding.

I think OSU EHE admissions may be handled on a case-by-case basis.

The Weekend was nice. Brussels sprouts were terrible. There were maybe 50ish people in attendance since it was for both PhD and EdD applicants. I overheard that attendees should hear back by the first week of March, but not sure how accurate that is.

    Thanks.

    This is really cool! Thanks!!

It could be interesting to be able to sort this by A/U/I, or whatever the abbreviations are on the results page for students who did college abroad/in the US.

Great suggestion! I thought of this when I started but forgot about it. I think I could easily do a drilldown of the column charts (averages), you click on them then it shows the different scores by A/U/I. The boxplots may require a little more work so may do that now or much later when my current break is over.

    Pretty cool!

It is easy to visualize that you need high GRE scores to be admitted into History programs but high scores are not as important as one may think: There are equal amount of rejections than admissions.

    Well done!

Yeah, I look around and it appears it's difficult to distinguish accepts from rejects. What I found was, you could tell that some programs favoured Quant over Verbal and vice-versa e.g. History V is generally higher than Q, but then, you'd most likely know this already.

I did!!! And it went well! That's e x a c t l y the thing!!! How c o u l d they?! After we had such a connection! An academic lady in me feels betrayed and finds comfort in Michigan's lack of good social standing (21st in THE rankings).

OK, so I checked. Given that the boxes are the same in terms of size, the following is true: in Education, you better have 4+ AWA (but that guarantees nothing), 152 or so + Quant. GRE (I've got 154, still proud, having relearnt all that Maths in 2 months), 153+ or so Verbal (I am my own hero here with 165). So the q I keep asking myself - if I am not admitted to anything, should I pass GRE again? - remains unanswered... Looks like anyone who has 152, 154 and 4.0. and above is fine, and the reasons for rejection lie somewhere in CVs and SoPs.

I stopped overthinking it some time back. I just tell myself these things are absurd black boxes then spend time refreshing grad-cafe :). I had a fantastic (in my estimation) interview at Penn yesterday but now I have no idea what that means for admissions purposes.

I'll give it a try. Offtop: I see you were rejected from Michigan, too... I am so sad that I don't have a signature anymore, so that I don't start sobbing each time I post anything. :P:)

I thought you got an interview at Michigan? I just go (are we allowed to swear on here) f*%#ing Michigan whenever I see the name :). It makes me feel a little better about things.
