  1. Nah, ad block should be fine. PLEASE NEVER TURN IT OFF. I think I know what's going on! You're probably using Firefox, I just got a "NOT FOUND" page, easily fixable.
  2. Errrr, it should move on by itself to a page with about 4 charts - column charts and box plots. That's about it, nothing else. It needs JavaScript to work right so if you're using an older browser maybe(?) or blocking scripts(?), it wouldn't work right. I'd say Chrome should be fine, I think.
  3. The last thing it should do is crash. Maybe not respond (I had that problem but I think I fixed that). Either way, try again maybe? Look for a counter of sorts that counts to 20 pages if you search for something as broad as, say "education".
  4. So I visit this section of the forum fairly regularly cos I'm applying to an Ed PhD program but my background is Information Systems. I built a web app, not sure of how well it works but basically, it takes your search term and searches gradcafe survey results. Then it visualizes the average (using column charts) and distribution (using boxplots) of uGPA, GRE Q/V/AWA by accept and reject. You can search for anything but the more specific your search is, the less likely you are to get results - not everyone submits their uGPA & GRE scores. I'm open to suggestions, my sense of design is non-existent and I may have made a couple of errors. https://grad-cafe-visualizations.herokuapp.com/
  5. Is it necessary to write a thank you email after your interview. I mean, if you and the interviewer spend the last few minutes saying your "thank you's", it feels overly business-y to me to go for a post-interview email. You've spent 15+ minutes making impressions of one another, what's an email going to do to help here?
  6. Just had my Skype interview with my POI at Penn. That was quite possibly the chillest - chill as in calm & relatively jovial - first-time conversation I've ever had with a professor. We discussed my interests, his current work and he also said he wanted to convince me Penn was the right place for me. He even talked about the other languages I speak (sadly, I'm only good with English) and him finding people who speak those languages to convince me to come to Penn - WHAT?! Said I could get back to him if I had further questions. I didn't even have to wade into my opposition research - 70 pages of a book he edited . Don't know whether to curb my enthusiasm but that went too well! It sounded like a prospective admit but then I'm thinking, maybe they do this with everyone? I'll be very sad now if I end up getting rejected.
  7. You got into OLPD, got rejected there too - Evaluation Studies. I think I have good news from one school and an interview with another so don't feel so badly about this rejection. Has OLPD given you further info - funding, ...?
  8. Just got an email. Rejected from the Education & Statistics Programme.
  9. Another one. I wish s/he gave more info.
  10. So I'm an international student (Nigerian studying in Taiwan) and I can't travel for the Doctoral Weekend so I was scheduled for a Skype interview with my POI. In my head, that was Friday 7pm EST - Saturday 8am Taiwan Time. So yesterday, continued what my friend calls "opposition research" on my POI. Was 70 pages into a book he edited when I received really positive news from my POI at Ohio State, so decided to chill a bit - thanks to this admissions season, the BP machine says my BP is 170/124??!!! (I have to believe my machine is now faulty though I do have a BP condition and I'm only 23 ). Anyway, I woke up 430am my time for the interview at 8am, still surprised I hadn't received any mail from the programme coordinator. Went to my lab around 6am so I could have a bright and ordered room to myself then I returned to Bernie Sanders news to pass the time. So a few minutes back, I emailed her to confirm that the interview is within the hour, and she went, "Your SKPYE is set for next Friday, February 5 at 7:00. Go to bed! We will see you next week." OH CRAP!!! I guess I can now start watching the last 2 Thom Hartmann shows I've missed. I've basically lived the last 2 days (waking/sleeping/eating) in preparation for this morning.
  11. Applying to the Education and Statistics (Dual Degree) PhD programme. Got zero movement on this end though there's movement on two others, one slightly positive and the other, negative. Initially thought the acceptance up there has no bearing on SOE PhD applicants but then a simple Google search shows it's an SOE programme. Merda! But based on the programme info, it looks like a slightly different programme from other SOE programmes. Good luck everyone!
  12. Bummer. That's not me. Since I'm also applying to quantitative methods, might be a quantitative methods thing.
  13. Hello. What results page is this - apply-web? Applying to quantitative methods too. What's your interest? Mine is evaluation focusing on developing countries. Hope to work with Professor Boruch.
  14. Doctoral candidates weekend email anyone? Sucks to live in Taiwan. Days after getting my first rejection from UMinnesota, sad I won't be able to enjoy quite possibly the one good thing I'll get from this application season. Guess we can be sure there's no decision until the second week of February for doctoral candidates then.
  15. I feel your pain. Wasn't a "nervous wreck", was actually pretty calm on Tuesday but that's only because I had 3 applications due last week, Dec 1. And in the days just before their deadline, I woke daily with a headache that had magically disappeared by the next morning. By Penn's deadline, the storm was past. Actually spent the days and weekend after the Dec 1 gaming even though I'm currently in grad school . By Penn's deadline, felt pretty good about life, hope you're there soon at least until decision period next year. Good luck!
  16. Hello, Planning to apply to the PhD programme in Quantitative Methods. Hope to work with Dr. Boruch; he's the only reason I'm applying. I'm interested in the Evaluation of Educational & Social Interventions (in developing countries), and randomized controlled trials. My background is somewhat off - Information Systems but thankfully, I took three calculus courses and a linear algebra course in my undergrad and have two statistics courses, one each from BS and MS. Hopefully, these help given the statistical component of the programme. Like everyone else, hope to get in.
