  1. I am deciding between UILUC, PSU, OSU, and UI. Still visiting programs to see which is the best fit. I think I am going to take an online class on R and summer statistics course. I visited some programs a few weeks ago and realized that I will be on a slightly older end of most incoming cohorts. I wanted to get back into the swing of taking classes again this summer.
  2. Thank you both. I guess I just want to hit the ground running but the advice seems good. I told Calc I-II, linear algebra, and stats in undergrad. I'm planning on taking a stats class this summer. Other than that (and setting up my apartment) maybe I'll just relax.
  3. I was wondering if anyone had advice on methods articles to read or classes to take this summer to prep for grad school? I have been working for a government consulting firm for the last few years and am not as familiar with the new literature. I will be studying IR and methods. My research focus will be conflict.
  4. I just got off the phone with Indiana. I was pretty excited and forgot when he said the visitation weekend would be -- March 24 or 28. If someone else gets a call could they tell me when the visitation weekend is?
  5. Hi, I was wondering if any faculty members could offer advice on how to pick which program to attend. For all the programs I applied to I have professors that I would be excited to work with. In particular, I am interested in: 1. How important is program ranking on the job market? 2. Which program ranking is the most widely recognized? 3. How many years of guaranteed funding is a typical offer? Thank you!
  6. Thank you! Your response is helpful and I appreciate the feedback. I am planning on sending out five applications this weekend and will apply to three more by January 15. I was on the fence about adding in a few more schools to apply to and wanted to see if anyone had a better grasp of my GRE range.
  7. Oh, I have actually applied to three programs already and contacted several professors. I want to know if I should widen my range of schools that I am applying to. Currently, I am applying to schools between 15 and 35 in their rank. I picked the schools I am applying to within this range based on shared research interests. I was wondering if my GRE scores are competitive for schools in that range. I think information on GRE scores are a bit opaque.
  8. Hi, I am planning on applying to several PhD programs this cycle for international relations with a focus on terrorism and conflict. I was wondering if anyone had an idea what range of schools I should be applying to: GRE: Q:158 V: 163 GPA 3.7 Research: Two coauthor credits, Stata, R, and SAS skill Work Experience: Social Science Research firm 2 years and Fulbright Fellow. My main concern is my GRE scores. Does anyone know what range of schools that puts me in?
