  1. Bump? Has anyone accepted any Film PhD offers? I'm still waiting for one to roll in. Looks like this thread is pretty dead compared to previous years - though it seems the media / comm thread is thriving with acceptances.
  2. I've heard nothing. They're my number 1... but I know it's probably a longshot. The waiting and rejection is killing me.
  3. No kidding, friend. I have 5 more to go (a decent number) but like you, it's hard not to get discouraged and write everything off to a rejection in totality. A wait list, while crushing, may still amount to something. Let's hope it does.
  4. Yeah, I mean it comes with the territory of putting yourself out there. Having the support here does help, though. That and chocolate.
  5. Rejected by Berkeley. 5/8 deliberations left... Trying not to get discouraged here ugh..
  6. Thankfully, yes. Still waiting on 6/8 schools. Praying for one acceptance!
  7. Rejected by UTA / RTF
  8. Not yet. I have have a feeling March will be the month film / media folks will be hearing back from most programs. Hopefully in the positive.
  9. You have to keep in mind that folks that applied to comm / mass comm / rhetoric programs in many instances deal with different ad-comm groups since film studies is a different program. I wouldn't totally give up hope for those 2 schools.
  10. I don't know why no one has chimed in on this, but say you get your Phd.. after that you adjunct for a bit.. after that you happen to land a steady teaching gig (yes, a lot of "maybes" here) at a non-profit university... you may qualify for loan forgiveness. In fact, more people may be eligible for such a thing than they think. It's a light at the end of a dark fiscal tunnel. Granted you need to make consistent payments over 10 years WHILE employed at a non-profit institution... however, the amount you're likely to pay back (if you have + $50,000 debt like I do after my B.A. and M.A.) will end up being radically less than your total debt amount. Everyone should be looking into forgiveness programs if you plan to teach... if there is no such incentive for teachers to have their financial slate wiped clean after a certain period of time, I don't see too many folks becoming professors in the future... I'm waiting to hear from PhD programs - I can honestly tell you I'd REALLY rather not dig my debt hole bigger. If I get an unfunded offer - I'm going to decline and work for a year and then reapply.
  11. Juju & Canned... amen. Pray for that funding. A PhD is not really worth digging into the debt piggy bank.
  12. Rejected from Pitt. Saw it coming, but any rejection stings, regardless. Here's hoping there will be one acceptance among the other 7 applications..
  13. Just received the Pitt rejection in the mail today. It was a pretty mediocre letter, and frankly I was anticipating it all day. Oh well. Here's to hoping there is one acceptance out of the 7 other applications.
  14. Yup. What everyone else has said. We're all in the same boat. Chin up and wait it out! It's crazy rough, I believe it, but hopefully the wait will all be worth it once you have gained an acceptance
  15. Still waiting on all 8. But it looks like film / media tend to deliberate later than comm / mass comm, etc.
  16. I haven't heard diddly from anyone. I'm getting anxious.
