  1. VG/VG, G/VG, VG/VG. Not Awarded. My reviewers said my methodology could benefit from more clarification and detail, and including contingency plans if things didn't go as expected. Which I was struggling with because of the space limits and have since worked on for my written exam. Oh well. At least my reviewers said my application was good overall, all had good things to say about my broader impacts, that I've demonstrated success in the research environment and my research will make definite impacts. Congrats to y'all that got it!
  2. I'll bet this being a holiday weekend has something to do with why they aren't up yet. I guess we just hope for next week at this point (again).
  3. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll decide to kill two birds with one stone and upload the results during the long maintenance tonight since the bill got signed.
  4. Looks like it won't be vetoed!
  5. Nah you're correct! I meant that I'm not super confident that I'm towards the front of the pack compared with other 2nd years since they'll expect more out of us when it comes to outreach/publications/proposal strength.
  6. I'm all but certain I won't get it (2nd year student, not from an underrepresented group, no pubs until after I submitted my application) but at this point I just want the results to come out so I can stop worrying about it. And I'm really interested in the feedback on my application.
  7. Got a reply from UVA saying they won't be extending anymore offers. Also got a reply from Vanderbilt saying they still haven't made a final decision but are "highly suggesting" I accept an offer elsewhere, which I'm taking as a rejection. It's a little bit disheartening that I got rejected from 3/4 schools I interviewed at, especially since I really liked all of them. That being said, tomorrow I'm going to officially accept UGA's offer and I'm so excited! Honestly, even if I got accepted everywhere else It's very likely I would've decided to attend UGA anyways. I'm in love with their Micro program, I was nominated for & selected to receive a graduate assistantship, I go to Athens a lot and have family friends there so I'm really comfortable with the city, and it all just feels right
  8. I emailed the rest of the school I interviewed at back on Wednesday. Got an reply from Vandy saying they'll tell me on Monday. Also got a rejection from U Michigan. Still waiting on any sort of reply from UVA. I hate waiting so long Oh and I got my official rejection from Emory this week too.
  9. Yeah that is a really short amount of time! Hopefully it would work out fine though. I was worried from the start they wouldn't accept me, it was my first interview and I was very nervous and didn't really know what to expect so I probably gave off a bad vibe some of the time. But whatever's meant to happen will happen! I'm sure you'll have a great time at Vandy, it really is an awesome school! My interests are in microbiology, especially pathogenesis, so that department itself was really appealing to me. They have professors working on lots of relevant pathogens, and those working on potential antibiotic targets and vaccine development. I believe they said Most/All professors are affiliated with the college of medicine, and the labs are in or really close to the hospital. To me it seemed like there was a good, collaborative environment, and not that much intradepartmental competition. There's lots of funding, and many students end up on NIH training grants.
  10. I loved UVA! I love how strong they are in infectious disease research, all the professors I met with were great, I loved charlottesville, and I had a really good time. I hope I get accepted, as of now (post all interviews) I believe my top 2 schools I'd want to attend are UVA and UGA. I really liked Vandy and that interview weekend definitely set the bar high for the other schools. But this whole taking forever to hear back thing is irritating, and as much as I enjoyed Nashville I don't know if I'd love living there. UMich was wonderful and I loved the program. But its so far away from where I am and get so cold, I again I don't know if I'd be really happy living there. I'm sure you're fine interviewing later, iirc Vandy accepts a high majority of those who they interview as the program is really big!!
  11. I'm about to give up on Vanderbilt at this point. Interviewed the weekend of Jan 29th and haven't heard back. I got my refund check so they know I exist but I just wish I'd get an official email or something. Also haven't heard back from UMich MCDB, and I know they've sent out a lot of acceptances already, but I'll hold out for another week or so. Still waiting on UVA BIMS but since I interviewed there the 18th-20th I'm sure they're still working on decisions!
  12. wow, that's a lot of people that applied. Explains why it took so long for them to fish everything though. At least now I can fully focus on the interviews I do have!
  13. I was afraid of that since I hadn't heard from them yet. thanks for the update though!
  14. Awesome! I'll pass the time preparing for the interviews I have come up. I'll let you know if/when I hear back, good luck to you too. They didn't happen to let you know which weekends they're planning to have the interviews did they?
  15. I still haven't heard from BBSP either! I'm hoping they'll notify us tomorrow since they were supposed to be finished reviewing apps by the end of this past week.
  16. UVA just had an interview weekend and they have another one coming up next month (18th-20th). Since you're an international student they may still offer you a Skype interview, though I have no clue when they decide about that. I wouldn't give up hope yet! Especially since several schools have some sort of waitlist that they'll go to after interview weekends if needed
  17. That's great to hear that it went so well! I'm even more excited to visit there now! Ah ok. I think I assumed they were rolling admissions but that makes a lot more sense now.
  18. I submitted my application on the deadline so i figured it would be a while before I heard back. Maybe they'll just release everything at once at this point? They're the last school I'm waiting to hear back from, waiting is so hard. I hope (if I get an interview) that their weekends are towards the end of February, I'm all booked up til then.
  19. Congrats!! Did you get an email or a phone call instead? I haven't received an email yet.
  20. I received a separate email that I was officially waitlisted about an hour after I received a response to my inquiry. Did you apply to MMG or IMP? If so I think you probably got wait listed and should receive an email today or tomorrow about it. Good luck to you as well! My inquiry response email said "The programs are in the process of finalizing their plans for the interview visits. They also keep a healthy wait list, and it is not unusual for them to return to it as applicants make decisions. Yesterday I processed a lot of emails to applicants who applied to IMP and MMG notifying them that the program was no longer able to consider their application, and you were not among them. The program will likely be in touch in the near future to give you a status update." Then my official waitlisted email said "We were very pleased to receive your application to the Microbiology and Molecular Genetics program at Emory University. We have a limited number of students we can admit for fall 2016. Therefore, we have a limited number of recruits we can bring for our first round of interviews. However, we are extremely interested in your application and potential in our program. You are currently on our waitlisted group of applicants, and we hope you’ll continue to consider Emory as an option for your graduate work. We will be in touch as changes develop, particularly if we are able to extend an invitation to interview in the future."
  21. Not exactly. I originally applied to PIBS and got rejected back in december. But a faculty member from MCDB who was on the adcom really liked my application and asked if I wanted to transfer my application to the MCDB program, so that's what I did.
  22. Good luck! I got a call from a POI, and she said I'd get a followup email with travel details later today. I'm not sure if they're sending out all the invites today or not, but hopefully you'll hear from them soon! I was told the main interview weekends are Feb 12th and Feb 19th.
  23. Aaaand I just got a phone call from UMich MCDB, they want me to come up for an interview!!!!
