  1. I think Harvard's administrative offices were closed today too. Hopefully the weather improves and everyone is back on track soon.
  2. NYU is closed today because of the snow storm. To the person who contacted Penn, thank you! I have a better idea of the timeline and won't be checking my email/portal like crazy. @WorldPeaceMaker2010 I'm really sorry about the frustrating situation you're in, but if it was a generic email, it's quite possible that there was just a delay in sending the email to you, not necessarily a delay in reviewing your application. Hopefully once the school/office re-opens, you can contact them to clarify.
  3. I told my sister to order Chinese food because we didn't have anything to eat at home, and (I kid you not) this was my fortune.
  4. I really hope tomorrow (the 9th) is a lucky day for those of us still waiting.
  5. Is it generally frowned upon to contact a school and politely ask when we might expect to start hearing back from them?
  6. I'm really sorry about your top two choices. Coping with bad news is definitely challenging, but it's admirable that you've been able to find peace and look at the positive side of things. I see that you've applied to 4 different schools, so I'm hoping that you hear good news from the last one.
  7. Congrats to the Duke and Brown admits!
  8. I thought I was rejected by Rutgers because a bunch of admitted applicants were notified on Friday/Saturday, but I was just notified today. Accepted and waitlisted for funding.
  9. I don't think the admissions committee expects applicants to know about professors moving to other schools. If you listed 2 or 3 additional faculty in your SoP, you should be okay.
  10. Good night
  11. NYU probably won't notify admitted applicants until next week (or the week after that). In 2016, acceptances were sent out on February 11th. In 2015, acceptances were sent out on February 9th.
  12. I have a feeling all of the interview invitations have already been sent out, unfortunately.
  13. Mine also says "Ready for review," but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Historically, Penn has gotten back to its admitted applicants in early/mid-February, so I'm hoping that we start hearing from them next week.
  14. I would attend as many visit days as you can and make your decision afterward. Another thing to look at (which I'm sure you already know) is job placement. You can see what kind of jobs graduates from each of those schools get on the department's website. Congratulations on your acceptance!
  15. Might be wishful thinking, but I really hope we hear back from UPenn and NYU next week.
  16. That's awesome! Congratulations! I remember you were worried/concerned about your Skype interview. I'm glad it all worked out.
  17. I'll PM you. Well, I don't think anyone has been accepted to Vanderbilt yet. They invited applicants to come visit their campus and meet the faculty. They will make their final decisions toward the end of February.
  18. I received an email earlier this morning from the Director of Graduate Studies. Congrats to you too! I honestly don't know how many people they are going to accept this year, but it looks like it's going to be a pretty small cohort.
  19. I was invited to attend prospective student weekend at Vanderbilt later this month, and I'm really grateful to wake up to good news. However, I already asked my supervisor to take a few days off for recruitment days at other schools, so I don't know if I'll be able to attend this one. I have to let Vanderbilt know by this Friday.
  20. Congratulations to the applicant admitted to Stanford! That's great news.
  21. I did a bunch of practice problems from the 5 lb. Manhattan Prep book. It's helpful because the questions are of similar rigor to the ones you see on the GRE, and the explanations give you instructions on how to set up the problems (which is something I struggled with). I studied with the book for about 6-8 weeks and increased my quantitative score by 4 points that way. Hope that helps some!
  22. I'm excited too, but I'm also mentally preparing myself to not hear anything this week. Based on the last few years, the schools I'm still waiting on won't get back to their admitted applicants until the second week of February.
  23. That's awesome! What are some of your research interests? Penn and Vanderbilt usually notify their top applicants around early/mid February. We still have some waiting to do.
  24. Congrats to the most recent UCLA acceptance! If you're willing to claim it, please share any additional details.
