    CCA or SFAI?

Very interesting...I'll have to give this some thought. Thanks for the info!

    CCA or SFAI?

    Sure!

    UCLA?

Wow that is completely messed up! I'm so sorry!

    UCLA?

I applied to New Genres, I think. I got my rejection email on 3/16. Up until then, the online status page just said no decision has been made yet, and it also said they hadn't received the majority of my materials (I think they don't bother to update that part of the website).

    CCA or SFAI?

Yes, this is super helpful! Apparently CCA and SFAI are tied for #14 in Painting/Drawing. I know these rankings don't mean much, but I guess it gives you a general sense of reputation. I don't know if CCA has quite that many students in painting. They told me they took 150 grad students in Fine Arts this year and 23% of Fine Arts is painting, which equals 34. But that is definitely still bigger than SFAI. I was debating whether it would be better for me to be in a bigger or smaller program. Smaller means more attention from faculty, but I also do not have an undergrad background in art. It might be better for me to be exposed to a larger number of artists during my MFA, since, so far in my life, I haven't been around many at all. I am going to go visit both schools next week, which will definitely help me decide.

    CCA or SFAI?

I thought I would start a separate topic for this since I saw other people were wondering about this too. It looks like I am choosing between CCA and SFAI. I got into CCA Interdisciplinary and SFAI Painting. My interest is in both painting and in writing computer code that generates dynamic paintings/installations. I know that CCA ranks a lot higher on usnews overall (CCA is #11 and SFAI is #30) and also in most of the subareas, so I guess that means CCA generally has a better reputation? I don't know too many people who are personally familiar with the schools, and I could use more to go on. Does anyone have any input on choosing one school over the other?
  7. Thanks! All these stats are really quite amazing!
  8. Your painting/sculpture hybrids remind me of one of my recent favorite artists, Kristina Lewis. I like them a lot!
  9. Same here! I love it, and I'd like to read check out your statement too!
  10. I'm curious what the acceptance rates are to most of these programs, since it's not actually on most of the websites. Does anyone know what acceptance rates are like for MFA's in general?
  11. I also am not sure which one I want to go to...I am leaning towards CCA. I'm planning to visit both next week. I'd be interested in hearing any of your thoughts for sure. What programs did you get into? I was accepted to CCA Interdisciplinary and SFAI Painting.
  12. I got my ucla rejection today too. I'm still waiting from RISD Digital Media, but I suspect that one is a no. I have a couple other schools on my list still, but it looks like I'm probably choosing between CCA and SFAI. I really wish I would get the rest of the decisions so I can just decide and plan!
  13. Congratulations, both of you, on your acceptances to such amazing programs!
  14. Oh really?! I grew up in Clarkston, and I went to Marian.
  15. Oh really?! I grew up in Clarkston, and I went to Marian.
  16. Congratulations to both of you! If you want to know about the area, I grew up there. I went to high school right next to Cranbrook and I used to work in their science museum. Their campus is really beautiful.
  17. That doesn't surprise me! He was so inspiring to talk to and sooo nice! He seemed really supportive and I ended up walking away from the interview with a bunch of great ideas for my own work. Did you do your undergrad at SFAI?
  18. Jeremy Morgan...I loved him!
  19. Thank you, both of you! I am going to go visit both CCA and SFAI and ask a million questions and explore the area. I don't live far from San Francisco, so I'm going to do that in the next week or so. I actually really love the artists that graduate from both schools. I loved the guy who interviewed me at SFAI...it was such a great, inspiring conversation, and I felt like he really understood what I am trying to accomplish with my work. I think I might like the CCA campus better, and it is easier to get to from the highway. It is very possible that I might be commuting from outside of SF. SFAI says I'm supposed to decide if I want to go there in 3 weeks...I hope I hear back from everywhere by then and know what I am doing! If anyone has any advice for me, I'd appreciate it! This brings me to: Accepted: CCA, SFAI Interview: UCSC Waiting to hear from: UCLA, RISD, San Jose State Rejected: Berkeley, UCSD, Cranbrook, Calarts I am really happy!
  20. I just got an acceptance letter in the mail for SFAI's MFA program in painting.
  21. I actually don't feel too bad about it. I feel like I'm going to get in where I'm supposed to be and my work will fit in well. I think Cranbrook does interviews on campus though. I am not sure if they have contacted people in painting for interviews yet. My list so far: Accepted: CCA Interviews: SFAI, UCSC Waiting to hear from: San Jose State, UCLA, RISD Rejected: Berkeley, UCSD, CMU, CalArts
  22. I got a rejection letter from Cranbrook painting a couple days ago in the mail.
  23. Has anyone heard from RISD Digital Media? I think they do interviews, and if they are supposed to let people know by the 24th that is starting to look not too promising.
