@ltr317, someone suggested early university-wide fellowship deadlines might be behind the earliness of this admit.

I know it's near the holidays but surprised no one has responded to this. When I was applying for AFAM and Africana Studies programs in 2016 there was a bit more activity(as you may see in my posting history.) I ended up going into Columbia's AFAM MA program and specialized in History during my time there. I am applying to History PhD programs rather than the Africana interdisciplinary PhD programs this cycle. I wish you all the best

Got into NYU's Africana Studies MA program! Feeling good.

Got rejected from all the schools I applied to up to this point but still waiting to hear back from Columbia AFAM (MA) and NYU Africana (MA.) Thought I would hear from both today. Maybe Monday?*fingers crossed*

I heard that usually folks who NWU is seriously considering get invited to interview with interested faculty before they finalize decisions. Does anyone know if this is true/currently occurring? I could imagine there being a good amount of people they don't forward to this round.

^Sorry typo. But I meant to say if you're going for PhD programs it is worth it to reach out to faculty you are interested in working with, telling them what you're broadly interested in as well as asking them about whether they are taking on advisees for the upcoming year. I emailed a professor I really wanted to work with and they actually told me that while they liked my research ideas they had too many advisees, but I should still apply and find another faculty willing to support the research.

Recently submitted my last application --Columbia. NOW THAT WAIT. Does anyone know when schools start getting back to folks? I know Columbia's deadline is Feb 1,for example, but do they start looking at applications before that or do they wait until they everyone's in?
