  2. Thank you @wisdomspeaks! That is wonderful to know. I don't know if I mentioned I got into Penn State's HDFS PhD program, and I mostly just want to hear from USC bc a couple PI's from USC are collaborating with a couple PI's from the HDFS program on a project I am obsessed with--lines up perfectly with my research interests...the week of the 17th-23rd will be here before we know it and if I don't get in, at least I'll have a better idea of where I'll be moving to in August.
  3. Just found out, via checking the website, that I was admitted to Rutgers' MSW program. Now for the PhD decision! C'mon USC and Rutgers, don't leave us hanging for that long.

  5. Hey @wisdomspeaks, same! Congratulations btw! I also got into NYU's MSW program (not a dual program, it was more of a safety for me), but still I'm really proud of myself/excited. Malinda suggested I ask for an extension, because it sounds like they won't be getting back until late Feb to invite people campus, and even then, it's not set in stone that you'll be accepted. I really hope they'll offer it to us, because otherwise, it's a lot to ask of poor pre-graduate students.
  6. Congratulations!!! My phone call was not an interview but an offer, I got all the funding deets, so I'm positive you won't be disappointed!!! I can't make the visit weekend, but I will hopefully visit when a couple other students can visit (who also can't make the original visit weekend). Let me know if you are going to visit, who your POI is, and all that jazz! We may go to school together!
  7. @asurachm Well I think I have the most perfect fit for two schools research wise. I think that will be what motivates me most, how much our research interests align. Hypothetically, if I don't get in to those schools, then I'd really like to move to the Midwest or East Coast, just for a change, (Rutgers, NYU, Boston College, UW-Milwaukee). Another thing I'm considering is how much warmth and encouragement I've felt before I applied from my POIs. SO many important factors to consider. If I only get into one program, then that's where I'm going, ya know? I've got a lot of self doubt right now, so it's so hard to allow myself to get my heart set on any one school, if that makes sense.

  11. Hey @wisdomspeaks, I've been thinking about that a lot. I would assume/hope the joint programs would somehow have that plugged into our timeline. However, I am fully prepared to do what you said about working AND researching. In an ideal world, where we gain our practicum hours could influence our research. I asked my home school UW, which does not offer a joint program, and they said it possible, but would imagine the joint programs base their curriculum off of us eventually becoming professors. It seems these dual programs take a while to get back, because some of them have to wait to hear from the masters school, as well. I'm not sure, but I am getting very anxious about hearing back. In other news, I got a second interview with Penn State, so maybe I was being a little hard on myself. Keep us posted about what you hear.
  12. You know, @asurachm I don't really have a first choice. Like you, I really followed common research interests/made sure I connected with each of the professors before applying. Most of the schools I applied to typically don't get back to students until Feb/March which is frustrating, but I like all of the professors I applied to so much that honestly I'd be thrilled to go to any of these places. I live in Seattle, so I really want the opportunity to move, other than that, I'd just like a couple of choices, if you know what I mean.
  13. @asurachm you're killing it! Where's your first choice again?
  14. Yes, it is! Thank you Let me know if you hear anything else.
  15. Hey @asurachm, I have another interview scheduled next week!
  16. Tell us how it goes, @asurachm! i'm sure you'll be great!
  17. Hey @wisdomspeaks I had an interview with Penn State's HDFS program. I haven't heard anything since so I'm not too hopeful--more realistic. The joint MSW/PhD programs are crazy competitive, which is a little frustrating to me. I wish there were more MSW/PhD programs, kind of like clinical psych programs, you can earn your masters along the way to becoming a researcher, ya know? Anyway, as someone who 100% wants to research/and work at a university I found it frustrating, hence my application to a couple other kinds of programs. Can't wait to hear more good news from you!
  18. congratulations @asurachm, that's wonderful news.
  19. Thanks for this. I'm finishing up my undergrad, and applied to a few dual MSW/PhD programs. I also applied to two social psych programs, and one human development and family studies program (of which I've had a phone interview for). for social work dual programs I applied to: USC, Boston College, UW-Milwaukee, and Rutgers. I also applied to University of Washington's MSW and NYU's MSW program. Congrats on your admission to Buffalo, already! That's amazing.
  20. Hi Everyone, I applied to Penn State's HDFS too, some social psych programs, and some social work programs. (there's not a lot of people doing the research I'm into, I had to be broad--also indecisive too ) Where did we see someone post that they already got accepted into Penn State HDFS? I'm new to this so I'm looking for it @Analyticchic or @east-coast-girl Fall 2016 Applied (7/7): Penn State (HDFS), USC (MSW/PhD), UW (Social Psych), UCSC (Social Psych), Rutgers (MSW/PhD), Boston College (MSW/PhD), University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (MSW/PhD). Interviews (1/7): Penn State (HDFS) on 12/15. (to be honest, I don't feel like it went well) and nothing else so far.
  21. Hi There, I applied to the program, as well. Best of luck. waiting is the worst!
