  1. Thank for the advice! I don't think there would be much experience in research. The program is basically about going out side and reporting. I find myself in similar situation with the buddy in "would you turn down harvard" thread.
  2. Hi everyone, here's my story: I got into UW-Madison's research MA program(2 yrs), and was happy to go. To my huge surprise, Columbia gave me an admission yesterday in data journalism(1 yr). I definitely haven't thought of this, and my worry is that I would prefer to have a PhD and a research career after my MA, so would it be a waste of time to go to Columbia in my case? My friends and professors are telling me to go to Columbia (I major in journalism in undergrad) because of all the connections and opportunities, but I feel like doing research fits me better, and applying for Columbia at the first place seems a "because it's Columbia" choice. Is it good to apply for a PhD after I graduate from Columbia (with professional journalistic trainings but hardly any academic ones)? Or I should go to Madison? PLEASE HELP!! THANKS!!
  3. Hi everyone, I'm applying for Berkeley Journalism Program. I have done my writing test on Dec 6, and in one email for test takers, it said "Interviews will be set up from mid-December through early February. We will contact you by email individually so that you and your interviewer can determine a convenient time for both of you." I didn't do really well in writing test, and haven't heard from school till now. I called the office this morning, and they said only selected applicants would be interviewed. PS, I found in Berkeley website that "After the interview is completed, a timed writing test will be administered." So here's the thing: it seems that interviews should be ahead of the writing test, but I took the test first somehow. What's the chance for me to get an interview or an admission anyway? Is this an implied rejection? Really need advice from an outsider's point now!
  4. Yesterday I got Marie's second email, too. However, the school is not replying my emails...I have sent them three!!! I am insane now.
  5. Me neither! Thought about emailing the admission committee but haven't. Anyone else?
