  1. This is just a general question for anyone I suppose, but just wondering: What is the draw for you all of the low residency program? And also for bwd2109: Do you prefer SAIC low-res over Tyler? If I had the choice I think right now I would go for Tyler MFA because the painting program is actually phenomenal, Dona Nelson is an incredible artist and person, and a lot of recent Tyler Alums have actually already achieved quite a lot. It is a smaller pool of people and I think they might get a bit more attention, if that matters to y'all. Plus Philadelphia is an amazing city with an awesome ICA, Phila museum, Vox Populi and other amazing galleries, and 1.5 hours/ 20$ bus round trip to NYC.
  2. I tell myself to calm down every day but lets get real we care about these results so much its not really something we can really pretend to take lightly amiriteee When I'm at work I'm all "yeah thanks for asking i submitted all my apps so I'll just wait it out, no big deal, we'll see what happens and I'm in no rush, I can apply next year. But enough about that, how are you!" But these are just the lies I spew to act like I won't be so butthurt when I get a ton a rejections
  3. What are your choices? Are you applying to UCLA?
  4. Hunter, all the way! I am in love with Hunter but I don't know if they'll be in love with me. If by some chance I got into Yale or UCLA I would likely attend them instead... unless I found that financially it would be impossible. But yeah, I'm pretty dead set on Hunter primarily, and I think it is sliiiightly more obtainable even though its still extremely competitive. After that I'd have to stick with Cali and NY and say Columbia, Bard, CalArts ...and the rest i'm not sure where I stand with them but I am really excited about the prospect of any of them. I know I applied to really amazing programs so I may not even get an interview from any of them. I just don't believe in safety schools because there's no point in getting an MFA if its not an experience you're completely thrilled about.
  5. samesies! Good luck with your app at tyler, tyler holds a very special place in my heart I did my undergrad at tyler and sculpture was actually my second major. The sculpture program changed my life!
  6. Ya instead of working on finishing my Cranbrook essays (2 Two page essays?, come on now) I looked through the results from previous years and expect to hear about interviews around: Yale- end of January Bard- "Week of Feb 1" -from website SAIC- by early February VCU- early February CalArts- week of Feb 7-14 RISD- mid February Cranbrook- mid February UCLA- week of Feb 21-28 Columbia- week of Feb 21-28 Hunter- by end of February Rutgers- no idea because they didn't used to host interviews. Interview day is scheduled for March 4th. Heh.
  7. HA! Ugh my heart skipped a few beats when I read your first sentence. According to my search in the results section Columbia won't notify for a bit still.... Yale on the other hand... Well it seems like for the past few years Yale has updated the status of applications online late at night towards the end of this week. So maybe this friday? AHH I'm also concerned that SAIC has sent out some interview invites in the mail for performance, maybe other media is soon to follow? Since SAIC seems to accept a larger margin I am going to feel really defeated if I don't get an invite there. Please update if you hear from SAIC in other departments!
  8. oh haha, yep i applied to so many that I forgot what was when. I still haven't heard from anyone! Here's what i just googled for you : The following list was adapted from another website (source: petersons.com) and it's based on the general major of MFA Fine arts (painting & drawing, sculpture, Photography, printmaking etc) however, some schools do not specify the exact same department, so the closest alternative was selected. So not exactly apples to apples but it still may be helpful.Source: Graduate Schools - Best Graduate School Search at Petersons.comColumbia (Visual arts)Student Statistics: Average age 27. 1,052 applicants, 2% accepted, 26 enrolled.USC (Fine Art)Average age 27. 312 applicants, 3% accepted, 8 enrolled.UCLA (School of Art)703 applicants, 3% accepted, 14 enrolled.NYU (Studio Art)Average age 29. 337 applicants, 3% accepted, 9 enrolledRISD (Painting)Student Statistics: Average age 29. 372 applicants, 4% accepted, 10 enrolledYale (School of Art)Average age 28. 1,222 applicants, 5% accepted, 57 enrolledHunter (Studio Art)Average age 30. 766 applicants, 5% accepted, 22 enrolledTyler (Painting & Sculpture)Student Statistics: 226 applicants, 8% accepted, 13 enrolledSAIC (painting)Student Statistics: 524 applicants, 9% accepted, 29 enrolled.Calarts- School of artStudent Statistics: Average age 27. 383 applicants, 17% accepted, 38 enrolledVCU- School of artStudent Statistics: 907 applicants, 18% accepted, 92 enrolledUC Irvine (School of Studio Art)Average age 28. 89 applicants, 25% accepted, 10 enrolled.Parson (Fine Arts)Student Statistics: Average age 27. 242 applicants, 26% accepted, 22 enrolledSVA (Fine Arts)Student Statistics: Average age 29. 408 applicants, 27% accepted, 32 enrolled.Cranbrook (Fine arts)Average age 27. 430 applicants, 30% accepted, 71 enrolledSFAI (Dept of Painting)Average age 32. 186 applicants, 30% accepted, 39 enrolled.U of Iowa (Program in Art)Average age 30. 173 applicants, 36% accepted, 51 enrolled.Pratt (Fine art)Average age 28. 355 applicants, 46% accepted, 65 enrolledMontclair State (Art and Design)Average age 34. 49 applicants, 71% accepted, 18 enrolled.MICA: UnknownOhio State: Unknown
  9. wow congrats! that is incredibly fast, wasn't the app date Jan 15th? Did you get this letter mailed to you through the post or through email? Good luck with your interview!!!
  10. It does seem that way! Maybe those groups of people just aren't posting. It's definitely hard to imagine people losing interest in those programs... but maybe because they are so competitive some people are opting out and using their app money on other less competitive schools? I kind of doubt it, I expect that people are applying and being quiet.
  11. The program is basically gutted and I don't think its a good investment of time. so sad.
  12. You can call the number 804-828-2787 for VCU questions, they just explained to me that only the app we've all already filled out is actually due today. I also read the essay was supposed to be 500 but it let me submit 540, and I did already try to submit 700 so I guess there is a true cut off somewhere between those. I would still submit today if I were you but yeah good to know you can have an extra few days more than you thought I guess
  13. Oh good! Is it a slideroom link that you can just share or is it like a private upload? With all the other apps I've done its just a normal universal link that you just have to wait for... if its just a link to slideroom do you mind sharing it?
  14. Hey has anyone who is applying to VCU received instructions yet on how to submit a portfolio? I submitted the general app a few days ago and still haven't received a slideroom link or anything...
  15. This seems like a question for each school individually and it looks like you already applied to 4 schools. Not to be rude but I would keep working on it, it could really help potential interviews for you.
  16. Thanks! Very good to know. I saw that last year most people are notified of interviews by the end of january and started getting really nervous especially since one of my references is being very slow about submitting a letter of rec. At least i didnt miss a question!
  17. that is, that was the case last year.... I guess its possible that this may change for next year since tufts just acquired smfa but i kind of doubt it
  18. To all persons inquiring about SMFA funding... They give merit scholarships to MANY grads, I would say about 80% of the grads even, and they range from 10-20,000 but most are like 14,000 it seems. Just an FYI
  19. Hold up.... What is this about a Yale video question. I applied for mfa painting and I didn't see a video question. Did I miss it somehow or was this for a specific program? Thanks!!
