I got an offer from UT and my question is how feasible it is to live in Austin on a $16k stipend (divided by 12 months)?
I heard that it is difficult to find affordable housing...

Think of it as a chance to nerd out with someone who knows about all the things you want to know about!

Guys!! I received an interview invitation from Kansas! It looks like this interview is very a-typical because I am not told what kind of questions they would like to ask in their invitation form.

Last year, I had an interview with HAWAII, and Hawaii gave me a list of questions to prepare. But this time Kansas does not even tell me what they would like to ask! I am freaking out!

Any suggestion about how to deal with interview like this?

If you have the time and you can afford it (or you're getting sufficiently reimbursed), you should visit every school that invites you. Even if you don't end up going there, you'll get a chance to meet your POIs in person, as well as students, and those are important connections for the future. Those already attending tend to remember everyone who visits, including students who went to other schools; you'll later see those people again at conferences, and it's always nice to have familiar faces around. It's how you begin to build your network. If you can't go to all the schools (too expensive, too much time off work, etc), then you should make an effort to visit every school that you are seriously considering. Visits can have a serious impact on final decisions; you might discover you actually don't really get along with a POI or a school gives off a bad vibe, or that it turns out you really like the town/environment of a school you weren't seriously considering before (some of those things happened to me, for example). The important thing is to treat each visit seriously, even if you think you've already made up your mind. As long as you are open-minded and excited about your visit, no one will be offended later if you choose to accept another offer.

That was me!!! So excited! I wasn't technically admitted yet.  I'm applying for the joint anthropology and linguistics program. The email said that the admissions process isn't complete but that it's "very likely" that I will be admitted.
I very nearly had a stroke on the spot. Admissions or not I am just excited to have made it this far!

    Hey y'all,
I saw some acceptances to U Arizona linguistics on the results page. Just wanted to say congrats from someone who is currently in that department! Hopefully we'll see you all at the visit weekend!

Just received an email from one of my programs. They're going to start releasing admission decisions no later than next week!

I may or may not have literally looked like this as the postman drove past my house today. I am getting too old for this anxiety.
Also, I feel this one quite accurately sums up the entire waiting process:

Me wanting to contact the department and be like:

This is exactly what I've been doing, too! Adventuring is all I can do to keep from going crazy waiting for schools  Luckily I'm in Colorado so there's a lot of good options. I went snowshoeing in the Rockies last weekend for the first time and it was the best distraction. If you don't have the outdoorsy options, exploring new places in the city you're in is also a good distraction! I like trying new coffee shops.

I think at least for NYU, if you look at the 2015 thread, you have to be interviewed to get further. But apparently different subfields have very different timetables for this (as long as they finish interviewing before the faculty meeting), so I guess no need to panic yet!
By the way I just had my interview with three faculty members at NYU. They told me they're aiming for 6 new students this year and the results would be out around early-mid February. Well, fingers crossed...
