  1. Ask your brother if he'd change his wedding to a different day. Grad school > everything else in the world (lol...totes don't believe that...buttttttt........)
  2. Def. visit ASU...especially if you're nearby and it doesn't take a chunk out of your life. Who do you want to work with at UGA?
  3. I'm really not reading cost of living calculators or anything. I just went and priced apartments and gas and everything separately (obviously, based off current charts and estimates...whatever). For the stipend, it's definitely more fruitful than UNC. *smiling but crying*
  4. :-) True! Still a very hard choice because I want to work with the faculty at both institutions. As it stands, the person I want to work with at Boulder is a UNC graduate...so it's like an endless loop. Great problem to have, though!
  5. Here's the tea: I don't want to be too poor during doctoral studies. I'm living a really comfortable life at Syracuse--good apartment and conference funding galore. My decision is down to UNC Chapel Hill versus University of Colorado Boulder. Without a shadow of a doubt, UNC's reputation holds more clout (both as an institution and department). Their stipend, however, isn't that great and the department does not offer conference funding. Boulder, though far from trash, is more of a rising star; their faculty even admit their recent hires in rhetorical studies are generating a lot of interest. Their stipend is much more livable (in terms of comparing cost of living in Chapel Hill to Boulder). Such a tough decision--more money with an great and "rising" reputation or scraps for reputation. blarg.
  6. Love your interest in museums! I'm currently working on my thesis (like literally working on it...I'm oscillating between grad cafe and the thesis). It's about the American Museum of Natural History and the ways in which tour guides do/don't discuss the Holocene Extinction. I'll have to read your stuff!
  7. *Eye twitches* I guess UPENN is going to keep us waiting another day.................. #JustWantToBeDoneWithThis #ProbablyWontBeAcceptedToUPennButIWantToKnowAnyway #CantCommitToASchoolWithoutKnowingAllOutcomes
  8. Historically, ASU has produced a number of impactful scholars (more than NC State). I think you're going to kick ass at ASU!!!
  9. UGH. I just turned down Utah. Again, it felt weird--especially since a fellowship was attached to it.........27K........................ughh.........................................................
  10. I was so hopeful that we'd learn about the University of Pennsylvania today...but now I'm doubting that. Blah, I'm certain that NYU's MCC is a bust for me...and I just want UPENN to return their results so I can figure out my life lol.
  11. I can't believe they yanked you around for two years. Shame on them. I don't know the quality of your application or you as a research, but I do know that there are a ton of duds in communication studies. At the very least, your passion for pursuing this for TWO YEARS IN A ROW should communicated to them your deservingness. I'm sorry that they did that to you! *Gets out wallet and gives you a $5 bill to get yourself a treat at the gas station*
  12. Happy that you got into Georgia. Sad that you didn't get funding. Schools have an ethical obligation to fund students, so it's terrible that they're not extending you that kind of offer.
  13. Fingers crossed for UPENN for you. It should be any day now (or even any hour...).
  14. ^^Just send that gif and acknowledge you're an applicant (But yes, I contacted Northwestern. However, I talked with a professor I spent a week with over the summer...so it wasn't weird to ask).
  15. Oh my gosh -- I meant to say "with the exception of UPENN AND NYU..." I've totally been rejected at NYU I bet lol. Sorry for the confusion!
  16. Hell yes - I can't imagine trying to navigating the dating world (or feeling lonely) while stressing about research. Graduate school is significantly more enjoyable when relationships are figured out! #MATRIX
  17. Anyone submitting to Kaleidoscope: A Graduate Journal of Qualitative Communication Research?
  18. Yuck. I just withdrew from USC Annenberg and it felt awful. I hate telling people "no." But now that means another funded spot is open--hope one of y'all get it :-)
  19. *Hugs motivational penguin who slips notice of acceptance/rejection in my back pocket"
  20. That's Aaron Hess! And oh my gosh -- Brouwer's work on tattoos is pretty awesome. Him and my advisor at Syracuse are friends. You'll be around good people (but you know that since you've already been there).
