Would you please tell me the advantages and disadvantages of these apartments: 1-GreenBrier Apartments 2-WillowTree Apartments 3-Hurton Tower I want to rent a 1-bedroom apartment near the NorthCampus
  3. we have financial aid from Columbia U. but both of us, at the best situation, have 5000$ per month. So, we found out that it is not enough for having a good life in NYC, so we decided to go U michigan ann arbor with at least 4000$ per month and have a better life there. That is amazing: NY with it's high expense offered us just 1000$ more. It seems that they want us to have a life as low level as a simple worker.
  4. is there any body? which country? which departement?

My fiance and I are both accepted to Columbia University and U of Michigan and we are considering to join Columbia. However, we have realized that cost of living is really high in NYC (specifically the apartment rentals). We have estimated to get the stipend of 5000$ per month from Columbia University, but we are not really sure that this amount of money is sufficient to have a nice life in NYC. Could please give us an estimation of how we should spend our budget on each of the following items: 1. One bedroom apartment: We have considered to live in Moriningside Heights, Astoria, Greenpoint or Williamsburg (if you have any other good neighborhood in mind please let us know). There is another option of on-campus housing which we do not have much info about (the site needs user pass) and we really appreciate any info (such as rental, facilities, environment) on on-campus housing. 2. Cost living: which might include food, clothing, commuting, cell-phone and some other expenses of the apartment like gas, water and laundry. How much will do the mentioned items cost per person? 3. Entertainment: this is a very important criteria for our decision; after considering the amount of money spent on the above items, how much money is left for us for entertainment? is this amount acceptable to fairly use the available entertainments? In fact, we are choosing Columbia over U-M just because we see lots and lots of entertainments in NYC, however if we won't be able use them, what difference does it make between Ann Arbor and NYC?!!
  6. it is nice, very nice. every thing : University, NY, ... My fiance (CS ) and I (ME) probably make a decision to go there for Fall. Where do you come from?
  7. I think and hear that RANK is not as important as we ( international students ) believe. Americans pay attention to your resume for having a job. Personally, I think that most of us are in youth and the best period of our lives. So, if we spend this period in a unpleasant place we will have regret. I am in a similar situation. I have been accepted by Umich and Columbia U. although UM has a higher rank, but ann arbor is a small town and very quiet. It is boring for me. I searched a lot and I got that living in ann arbor is not interesting for me at all. So, I will choose Columbia U with a lower rank but a nicer city (NY). I thought that if I choose Columbia U, my job oppertunitie will dicrease a little but I can make it up by having a good resume. And if I go to Um, my job oppertunities will increase but i will miss my youth and i will wait this 5 years to phd in UM finish early. My youth will not be made up by any thing. I am from a big City and I will be depressed in a small town. So why should I choose a high rank university with it's difficulties? So, study in order to live better, not live in order to study....
  8. hi every body I have 3 admissions for example.I want to know if it is possible to defer two of them and accept one of them. It is because I am not sure about my decision. any experience?

I found out that you are accepted by UM ( which program? ) and your boyfriend is accepted by columbia ( which program? ). Is it correct? like my fiance and I  Why don't u try to transfer your universities? Are u now in ann arbor?
  10. now, my decision is between Columbia University and Umich. for Phd. I can forget Umich's high Rank and go to a nice, luxurious and beautiful CITY with a lot of entertainment. The important thing is that it is a big CITY and I love cities with nice shopping centers and restaurants. Or, I can forget about these exciting things and go to a high rank University in a small Town. What do you think? What do you think about Job oppertunity difference between these two Uni?
  11. Hi If the place where u live is important => UCLA If the rank of Uni is important => UIUC I heard that UCLA is in the nice place with a lot of entertainment and the weather is very nice too. But, UIUC is a small town.
  12. Yes, That is true. they will reject without reviewing. But, I think that some of new projects will be accepted and maybe some prof. need student. You should keep contacting with them, however I believe that it is a hard work to seek an advisor personally. I think that UW is like Cornel in getting International Students. It is unfair.... :x
  13. Hi Dear UW is different from other admissions. YOU should find an advisor and if you don't you will be rejected. I found it more difficult than usual admissions with admission committee. It seems that they do not look for an international student at all.
  14. I have applied for M.S. Stanford does not have direct Phd. I heard about it about 1 month ago. New Opening positions will be found at the end of summer which is too late for VISA. In your country, is it difficult too? ( I mean, Getting VISA for Admission without fund is hard ) What about other admissions with fund? All of them will be accepted easily?
  15. congratulations! Are you waiting for other universities??????????????????????????? Why not Stanford?
