Yunix replied to GeoDUDE!'s topic in Earth Sciences Forum
Still waiting for 3 waitlists decisions. 3 days to go. I'm not mad. -
Here's a Q&A on Stack Exchange Academia on this topic, with a faculty answer: http://academia.stackexchange.com/questions/38343/time-difference-between-admission-offers-and-rejections-in-us-phd-admissions

@sheeppool Totally. You should accept your Purdue offer now. To hell with all the other programs since they obviously don't care enough to tell you anything one and half months before the deadline. To hell with all the application fees as well - ain't life too short for waiting. Sorry about the trolling. My serious answer: No. Wait with patience. -

@Miner 49er Did you receive an email from WHOI just now as well? The email about tax documents for SSF last year? It's just mean to receive it this time of the year! I almost got a heart attack thinking it's THE email! Nice job payroll!! -

Tomorrow could be the big day for WHOI/MIT. They seem to release acceptance on the second Friday. Tomorrow is the second Friday of the month... Good luck to those applied. -
I checked out the "2015 Applicant Profiles and Admissions Results" thread just for the sake of it. By Feb. 10, 2015, there're 23 pages of content in that thread. This year at the same period, we have 8 pages...

Another thought on 1: notice that Humanities has the most posts of all the subforums, followed by Social Sciences. Maybe people in these disciplines are more social and/or more comfortable participating online discussions? Maybe geologists are just shier, so even though a lot of them visit here, they tend to remain quiet.

@Miner 49er don't lose hope! That one person could be you! I'm sorry to hear you got rejected from UW. -
I see it from another light. Before I had so much difficulty getting off the bed. Now every morning I wake up rushing to check my email - desperate, but also good for keeping up with morning schedule

@magnetite I didn't apply to Arizona State or Washington. In hindsight I should've applied to at least Washington because it has such a strong oceanography program, with their huge OOI project ongoing (read: $$). Best of luck to you! -

Got an email from a POI at WHOI-MIT joint program asking me whether I'm interested in the POI's project (this POI was not listed in my application). Obviously not a guarantee of admission, but it's good to hear at least something for the first time from any school since forever. -

@sarah0942 I've taken his sedimentology class. His class is probably the most popular among undergrads, since he's funny and the material is well articulated. Good luck! -

@magnetite I'm sure they won't ignore your application simply because they failed to update your score. It's their fault, not yours. -
