Thank you so much--I actually just checked that incidentally and was about to post to say that my CamISIS was updated (25/04/2017) with that same message.

What @luiswel meant was to check your self service account (CamSIS). There should be a status update:
21/04/2017: The financial condition has been met with a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Details of your award will be sent to you directly by the funding body. Please upload a financial undertaking form to complete your condition.

@Adelaide9216 Per Lora Seery: "Once an applicant is offered an award, they must have a doctor certify that their health allows them to travel internationally and participate in the day to day activities required of their grant. If an applicant does[sic] any medical conditions, our concern is that they will be able to get the ongoing treatment/medication given their grant placement."
    Hope this helps!

I am thinking of applying if I do a PhD. But I am uncomfortable applying because of Trump's ban and the whole current situation in the US. I feel a lot of solidarity with the people originally from the countries that are included and targetted in the ban, but also because I am non-White and am afraid of being directly affected by it. I have a lot of stories of people from Canada who have been denied access to the US recently even if they are Canadian citizens. Also, English is my second language so that would be a challenge (I currently hand in all my papers in French even if my courses are taught in English at my university). And also, I have with a health condition and even if it doesn't hinder me from working, studying, attending graduate school, etc; I'm afraid that there might be some discrimination in the selection process since they are asking for medical report of the applicant.

Hey all! Congrats to awardees and best of luck to all alternates!
I've been awarded the Student Research Grant to India next year - specifically Delhi - and was wondering if there were any others on here? Would love to get a facebook group started! From what I understand there's quite a big group of research students and ETAs.

Not on my end of things but I don't think we should worry? Scholarship formalization letters can take over a month in my experience

Hey! I'm heading to a UK university, and a lot of my planned engagement will be through my university's societies and the like--outside of joining the History society (kind of expected given my program of study) I'm planning to join and be very involved with the Creative Writing society, as UEA's MA Creative Writing program is one of the best in the world! But I'm also hoping to work with various organizations that help people with disabilities and fight for their benefits and legal rights, as my project is centered on the experience of medieval disability. Other than those areas, I'm not entirely sure yet, given I don't know how much time I'll need to reserve for schoolwork, but I'm hoping to say yes to a lot of different opportunities across disciplines!

Since it looks like most of the acceptances have gone out, I wanted to ask... How does everyone plan on engaging with their host country? I'm especially curious with the UK winners plan on doing

Not selected for ETA Germany. However, I was notified yesterday that I've been awarded a DAAD Graduate Study scholarship so I am still overjoyed! Congrats to everyone who was selected! It's been fun lurking on this page for awhile and I wish everyone the best of luck!

I was interested in something similar. Luisa told me that a group Facebook would go live once the international round concluded.

This one hurt me! When I first applied I didn't even make semi-finalist status. I am not sure at what stage you are (in grad school, masters, etc), but I applied to the Mellin IDRF grant to see if I could complete my dissertation abroad when I took a year off from the Fulbright process. Also, it seems like you have no trouble getting past the US round but you're getting stuck in the country of your choice. Does your project have any part of it that might be controversial or might be hard/critical on the country you applied? Also, have there been any projects that are similar in line to yours that have been done in the past? That's something that I've learned from the webinars and my university's FPA. They mentioned for the research award that when people don't pass the US round it could be a combination of methodological concerns in the project, professional qualifications, and/or issues with the affiliation letter. However, when it's the in-country selection, US is kind of in the dark and can't really know why the projects would not go through but usually because there may be sensitive issues associated with the project or there are other type of needs the country wants to focus on. I am not sure if any of this is helpful but I just wanted to let you know that you totally passed the hardest clearance (US level) in the process.

    Hi All,

I just wanted to include some final thoughts for future applicants lurking on this forum after making it through the process myself. Keep in mind that the Trust emphasizes not just leadership, but social leadership (http://lexicon.ft.com/Term?term=social-leader)-- took me a while to realize this. I will go ahead and echo previous advice on this forum and say that, for the interview, my experience closely mirrored the info provided on the website-- so do practice with the outline they provide. They really make an effort to lead a pleasant discussion, rather than asking a series of questions or trying to grill you, so go in ready to bounce off their energy and share your research and the importance of your field. Don't spend too much time preparing for ethics-based questions (a mistake that I made, as my field is one that is riddled with ethical dilemmas, but I didn't get a single ethics question...n=1, but take that as you will). In retrospect, once you make it to the interview stage, I would say they are most interested in determining your "fit" with Cambridge (i.e. what have you done, how will that carry over to your time there) and the goals of the Gates scholarship (mostly social leadership). Of course, this all takes years to build, and if you've made it this far, you've certainly "checked the right boxes"! Just be yourself and keep these overarching goals of the interview in mind when answering questions.
Lastly, I just want to say that we are often our own worst critics. I almost stopped myself (so many times!) from submitting an application because I didn't think I stood a chance! No one from my (large) school had ever gotten it before, so why waste time that I could be putting towards something productive? Please don't let these thoughts stop you. Wish you all the very best!
