I will be moving to Reno in August with my boyfriend to attend UNR. We are looking for a 1 bedroom apartment in a quiet, safe area, however I do not know which neighborhoods are best. I do not mind having to commute to school (15 mins or so). Any suggestions/advice for someone moving to Reno and looking for housing? Thank you!
  3. True, however I just checked my status online and it says, "A decision on your application has been made. You will be contacted with further details." I pasted that into a Google search and the manual for the CU online portal showed up and listed that response as a denial. So I guess it wasn't meant to be! Good luck to the rest of you!
  4. Thanks! It definitely did. I emailed her and she said she hasn't received a list with my name on it but hopes to get more from the committee later today or Monday. So I am guessing I didn't get in.. I guess it'll be nice to just know either way and not have to devote any more mental energy to this! Congrats on your interview! Good luck!
  5. Thanks! Did you just email her by the email address on the website? I tried emailing her months ago to confirm my application had been received but she never responded.. Not sure if I had the right address..
  6. Another week and no one has heard anything? Has anyone spoken to the geography graduate secretary or any staff members about when results might be sent out?
  7. Haha, that would be awesome. Thank you, JJEdwards! I hope you get into your #1 place as well! I actually had a really hard time finding professors who were pursuing research that was exactly what I wanted to do. I am really interested in how Arctic Amplification is affecting Northern Hemisphere weather patterns. I only found Mark Serreze at CU Boulder and a professor named Steph McAfee at University of Nevada, Reno. I have a B.A. and not a B.S. so if I wanted to apply to other climate change programs, I would have to go back and take a couple chemistry and physics courses. That is my plan B, I suppose. A lot of other programs I was interested in told me that they wont have funding for another year or two, so my options were pretty limited. Boulder is my first choice but if I only get into UNR, I would go there too (even though I hate Reno... the campus is gorgeous though!). If I don't get into to either of those schools, I will probably try and get more research experience in the Arctic/sub Arctic areas or take some more classes at the local community college so I can apply to more M.S. programs next year. I totally know what you mean with the whole expensive part of applying to schools. Even if I found more programs to apply to, I could probably only afford a couple more! Well, I hope everything works out the way you want them to! I will be crossing my fingers for us all!
  8. Thanks for the encouragement , desert bee!!! I know how you feel. I feel the same way about my POI Mark Serreze and I am pursuing a master's in the climatology subfield. I have been following his work for years and used a lot of his research in my undergraduate studies. Working with him would be such a game changer! I talked with him on the phone last November for a long time and we seemed to get along so well and have a lot in common. I even volunteered on an Earthwatch Expedition to do climate change research in the sub Arctic to get some experience. He said I have a good chance of getting a TA position but said he can only take on one or two students. So I know the competition must be fierce but I guess I felt like I sort of had some kind of a chance since he said I had a good chance of getting a TAship. Who knows. Working with him would literally be a dream come true. However, I know I need to stay in the mindset that I will end up where I am supposed to be! It's really hard though when you want something so much! Thanks for posting here and replying to my posts. I have been going crazy and it is nice to know that there are other people out there going through the same thing. It is nice to feel supported! Really hoping that we all get accepted!
  9. I feel the same way, JJEdwards! I just want to know either way and it's killing me knowing other people have heard back yet I haven't.. It's the worst! Who were your POIs and what subfield are you interested in?
  10. Seems as though the department has already sent out some acceptance emails... I wish people who were accepted would post their advisors so the rest of us have an idea of our chances... Trying not to feel bummed but getting the feeling bad news is on its way to me
  11. Someone posted on the results page that they were accepted to the CU Geography master's program on February 12th.. If that person is reading this, would you mind posting your POI and subfield?
  12. I haven't heard anything yet but am feeling really anxious as well! Based on what I see on the results page, it looks like schools are giving out their Ph.D. results first. I have seen some master's results but not much. I emailed a current master's student at CU studying geography and she said she heard back late February by email. If you search CU geography results from previous years, it seems people pursuing master's degrees heard back between late February and the second or third week of March. So hopefully we'll all hear soon! The closer it gets, the more nervous I get... Good luck to you all!
  13. Also -- has anyone else spoken with Mark Serreze directly? I am wondering how many people are interested in him as their main POI. I am looking to study the effects of a changing Arctic cryosphere, so he is really the best suited (and only) POI I selected. The other professors are great as well but he was the only one I spoke with on the phone.
  14. Stormgasm - That sounds like a great sign that he emailed you to gauge your interest! When did he contact you? I see two Ph.D. results from Boulder on the Results page, so it seems like the department has made (or is starting to make) their final decisions. It has taken everything in me not to contact my POI! I am considering one other school that has shown interest in me, so I just wish I knew what my POI was thinking so I didn't miss out on another opportunity. Boulder is definitely a far better match for me than the other university. The anticipation is killing me! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!
  15. Great to see some more geography people! Does anyone know when the department is expected to send out admission decisions? Every day I check the results page, I see more stuff from CU Boulder but never the geography department (although there was a Ph.D. result a couple of days ago). It seems like its mostly Ph.D. results right now.. I am trying not to go crazy waiting to hear back! This is a dream school/program/POI situation for me so I am really anxious to hear back!! Thinking good thoughts for us all!
