  1. @1428 Elm St @phdincrim2016 have you guys heard anything?
  2. I called and was told that the first round for John Jay is being sent out now, or was already sent out via email. I haven't heard anything. Too bad there aren't any emojis with tears lol
  3. @1428 Elm St We are in the same boat, I can't move either! Did you attend John Jay's information session? I did.
  4. @1428 Elm St @phdincrim2016 John Jay should be sending out first round invites in about 2 weeks... My friend called yesterday
  5. THANK YOU GUYS!! @liesandfish @Partinrn I really appreciate the support and compliments. I've had a rough week so those things are very very nice to hear. My girl is a total nerd and a great help in the kitchen too.
  6. Okay well I am 30... I finished my BA last year after a career as a pastry chef and having my daughter. I've always had an interest in Criminal Justice, my first major was forensic science in 2003. My verbal was 155, I'd rather not say my quant. because I am so embarrassed. I took the test on 34th street here in NYC and there were plenty of fire engines and police sirens to hear through the earplugs I was wearing. Combined with the fluorescent lighting I suffered a horrible migraine attack. My writing was like a 4 but I think (hope) the sample I provided will take care of that. I am capable of research at John Jay, I know this because I've already done it there under the advisement of a wonderful distinguished professor. He wrote one of my letters so fingers crossed! I graduated with a 3.86 cum, 2 majors in 3 1/2 years while raising my kid alone and working. That test is no measure of my capabilities (eye roll). I'm so glad to have a forum filled with people I can relate to. Right now I work at Bronx DA, working here has given me PLENTY of research ideas.
  7. Just how bad were your scores? What do you think strengthened your application? I'm obsessing, please indulge me. Also, how old is everyone on here? I'm wondering if there is an age preference, like if most of you are fresh out of school (early to mid 20s) or older.
  8. GRE is not everything? I did horribly on quanitative so you're giving me hope. Thank you.
  9. Do it! It can't hurt to try.
  10. Congratulations! Good luck.
  11. Brokenwindow you were invited to interview at John Jay last year, right? I read a post of yours from Feb 10 last year... when were you invited? Sorry to be stalker-ish, I'm creeping on all things John Jay right now.
  12. Thank you liesandfish! I have become much more patient over the years but this is just plain torture. Hopefully its worth the wait. Can we agree to meet if we both get interviews phdincrime2016?
  13. How far into the program is your friend? I LOVE it there, I wouldn't need to be recruited lol. Thank you for the info! 20 + 10 in a back pocket seems like a lot of candidates for less than 200 applications--I believe that was the estimate given at the information session. Congratulations to everyone getting interviews and offers! How exciting to think we all might work together someday.
  14. Hello all, especially phdincrim2016. I called JJ and was told that if selected for interview day, we will be notified in the end of February. If our application was rejected we will hear back end of March. Ugggghhhhh!
  15. Did you attend the information session? Waiting is really starting to get to me.

Sorry I missed this - no, I didn't attend the info. session.

  16. I know John Jay interviews candidates--per the information session we should hear something by mid-February. I can't wait. Re: the pact, I'm in. Good luck to all.
  17. I applied for John Jay's Criminal Justice PhD. Undergrad GPA was 3.86, double major in Psych/Political Science but took a lot of CJ related courses. I worked at John Jay as a research assistant for about a year and completed an independent study project there. Tutored stats too but my quantitative GRE score sucks. Has anyone heard anything yet? I think it might be too early because the application deadline was January 1. This is killing me.
