At least I'm self-aware, right?
Fun isn't something one considers when waiting for a GRFP announcement. But this....does put a smile on my face.

great minds! thanks for making me feel less creepy!
No problem. So you're suspecting this coming week as well?
-
Based on me skimming through the last few years worth of forums.
Seems to be that the maintenance alert we are on the lookout for typically goes up the day before results are released (Monday if results are posted Tuesday). This alert could be posted as last as 9pm on the day before announcements. It is usually a maintenance alert that lists the end time at being 3am or 5am. Additionally, I would say that we are in the home stretch given last year's awards and honorable mentions are no longer listed. That list tends to go down a week or two before announcements.

I got the same kind of email, I spoke to one of the faculty and it seems like they had significantly more applicants than in the past / very qualified applicants. I think they want to offer very few admissions to have a more boutique-y graduate program rathern than a large program like some other schools.
The feeling I got was: we really like you but let us focus on winning someone else over if there's no chance you're coming here.
Yeah, that is the feeling I got as well. I'm just confused as to whether or not that means we are accepted. Does this go into my acceptance column? I'm definitely still interested in Vanderbilt, but I am leaning towards Duke. I'd like to hear what Vanderbilt has to say though before I make any decisions.
-
Did anybody who received word from to Vanderbilt find the acceptance email a bit odd? Also, did anybody get an acceptance email without receiving an interview?
My email said something along the lines of I'm on a short list of admits and they would appreciate if I told them if I was still interested in Vanderbilt or my interests were elsewhere. It said positive things about my application, but seemed really unclear. No funding info or anything. Anybody receive similar?

Has anyone else lost the motivation to do their remaining school work?
Oh also, maybe this is common knowledge but I was talking to a Michigan grad student today who said they host a one month "math camp" in August for first-year PhD students to boost their skills before the quant sequence starts. And then I mentioned it to my advisor, who said this is common at US schools. Just thought I would mention it here so that people know to ask their schools about that and potentially plan for it!
I think the same thing happens at Duke, but it is internet based.
-
congrats to all Michigan admits! I'm waitlisted and wondering if anybody accepted would be willing to share funding details in a private message? I'm just curious what their stipend looks like, and whether I should worry about the waitlisted given I've been admitted with fairly good funding elsewhere.
-
Got waitlisted for Michigan...very nice email. Makes it seem like the waitlist is short. Anybody who got accepted have info on funding yet?
-
Any Duke admits get any info on the admit week yet?
-
Emailed the graduate program coordinator for Michigan. Says decisions should be out by next Monday.

Ah, I see. Yeah, now I have my hopes up. I'm tempted to call or email and ask, but I just don't know how I'd word it without letting my desperation show through.....

Anyone know anything about Michigan? According to their website, decisions should be coming this week, but in past years, it was around February 10.
Where on the website does it say that?? I've been expecting Feb 10th/11th based on the results of past years as well.
-
I suspect Duke will be out on Monday. Other than last year they have been fairly consistent with the 31st of January/1st February notices.
I also spoke to a PhD student close to the process at Vanderbilt, and seems as far as interviews we should know by the end of next week. I'm also thinking Berkeley will be next week as well.
So I suspect this time next week there will be a few broken hearts and some people over the moon.

If I have to go through another weekend without a decision......
-
How many people had to pay for GRE prep services?
-
Yeah I think it wouldn't be a stretch to expect Duke tomorrow or Monday. They tend to release on the last day of January or first day of February. Last year a member of AdCom got injured and delayed the release a day or two. So I am hoping to hear from Duke. It is one of my top choices...if not my top.
I would also like to know if any rumors or news is out there about Berkeley. I'm working on finding out something in regards to Vanderbilt now.
-
I really wouldn't worry about the Berkeley posts. I am of the strong belief someone is trolling....specifically trolling me because i have mentioned to a few that I am worried about my stats.....but I liked to jump to the troll conclusion and might just be clinging to hope.

Funny as soon as you mention most hear by email a result comes up stating notified by email.
