  1. Hey! I jut accepted Carleton's offer - my friend is there finishing the first year of the 2 year MSW. She said it's pretty sociological and not heavy on clinical skills. Not sure if you have a BSW but it sounds like the first year is theory heavy. I like that the program sets the practicums as full time instead of part time along with classes.
  2. This is such a busy time for everyone as we respond to our acceptances, rejections, waitlists, deferrals etc! I was accepted to Laurier today and was wondering if anyone knows anything about their funding structure. There was nothing specific in their offer of admission. Also, can anyone speak to the program (its emphasis, structure, practicum)? Thank you!
  3. Windsor is notifying their first round picks with offer packages being mailed out in a few days.
  4. Hey, I just heard from Windsor via e-mail! The e-mail said the official letter of admission will sent out by post mail within a few days. The wave of Ontario decisions begins ahh!
  5. Hey there, I recommend responding the e-mail offer and inquire about an extension to the acceptance deadline. I think most schools are flexible and recognize that students are waiting to hear from other schools.. One school allowed me 6 weeks extension after some back and forth discussion and another school has allowed me 4 weeks more time to decide. Good luck!
  6. Does anyone know how Windsor and Laurier will be communicating their decisions? I believe Laurier sends their decision via mail?
  7. Huge congratulation Hey! I applied to three of the same schools of you and have the same inquiry about comparing schools. I got into Carleton too, so we may be in the same co-hort! My friend is at Carleton now and enjoys it, sounds like less emphasis on clinical and more focus on structuralism than Windsor and WF.
  8. Sweet! Thanks for the info about Laurier! I really know nothing about the program or the city - how do people decide among schools? I'm not sure my first choice but I know I'd like to move from Calgary. I applied to 3 schools in Ontario so I'll be out east. As of today, I got into Carleton! That's frustrating - do you think 100 hrs will matter to them? And what are these post-bsw programs people are talking about? is it a fifth year of social work? Pre-MSW prep?
  9. Hey CalendarGirl, thanks! They were all great experiences! Mm the caseworker positions were full-time, I worked in a residential group home during my undergrad and the research position was part-time during my final year of uni. My BA was in Sociology, minor in psych. It will be a year and half between undergrad and grad school. Wow, your experience sounds great with such a focus on mental health! Did you apply anywhere else other than Laurier?
  10. Hey CalendarGirl, I applied to Wilfred's 2 year program too. My experience is 1.5 years as a community caseworker for two non-profits, 2 years as a child and youth residential counsellor, a paid research assistant and a summer position doing grantwriting and donation admin for a domestic violence shelter. My volunteer experience is a bunch of short positions, nothing really significant with exception of 5 years of being a youth leader at my local church. I'm not sure either I have enough experience, I think I have hopefully an average amount. What's your experience like?
  11. Hi everyone, I've applied to Carleton, Windor, Wilfred Laurier and U of Calgary. I heard back from Calgary this week with an official offer of admission! This is my first year applying to 2 year MSW programs and I'm unclear about funding and deferrals. For example, U of C has asked I reply with confirming my admission by March 7 with a $500 non-refundable admission confirmation deposit but I'm waiting to hear back from other schools. The letter did not mention option to defer and Calgary is not my first choice. Does anyone know when we can expect to hear back from Carleton, Windsor or WF? Also, do most offers of admission discuss funding offered? Thanks!
