  1. I find this entire thread insulting. Of course SuddenlyParanoid might have gotten into all of these places. You know nothing about his test scores, letters, experience, etc. (actually, I didn't check as to whether he posted test scores or not). I've done well (near 4.0, 800/800/5.0), and have no reason to doubt SP's success. And a 3.7 at some places is better than a 4.0 at others. What is the purpose of this? Actually, maybe everyone on this site except one person is the same person, making up all of this in order to mess with that one person's mind...
  2. I applied to a lot of places (and have withdrawn from 4 or 5 that aren't even listed on my sig) because I was told that the admissions process is very capricious, and a lot of luck is involved. Guess I've been pretty lucky. I went to a strong liberal arts college in the US, had a 4.0, and a couple of very strong letters from younger professors who have a lot of connections. Although many have said that the precise GRE doesn't matter as long as it is good, there's something about a 1600 (my score) that brings you to the top of the pack---I completely agree that this is ridiculous and unfair. But if you look at the acceptances, a lot of people have been accepted to quite a few places, and they will all be turning down all but one. So lots of slots will open up. I do hope that those with a lot of acceptances will decline offers as soon as possible....I will do so for all but a few very soon. Best of luck.
  3. Question: If they admit, say, 29, then how many do they expect to enroll? Obviously, not everyone who is admitted there will accept (I may very well be one of those who declines).
  4. Thanks. I'm new here. How do you get your stats in gray underneath your comment?
  5. Someone from Cornell called my advisor and asked her what the chances would be that I would come if I got the offer (she responded that Cornell was in my top three, but no other details). So they are definitely going through folders. It is a strange question to ask, though.
