Ah darn Hunter was a top choice for me too but no interview request so guess I’m out of the running there. Congrats @TBA1982 ! Hope you get it. Anyone heard anything from Ohio or Boston yet?
-
Oh, and in case anyone gets confused on who I am, I just changed my screen name on this forum because I realized it was too similar to my Skype name, and I used that to interview for programs...

Had my interview with Northwestern, it was very short - about 13 minutes. For anyone who interviews in the future, they asked me I think 3 questions - (paraphrasing) who I am as a writer, what inspired me to write my writing sample, what piece of writing lately has inspired me. Then I got to ask a few questions. They said they would make decisions soon after interviewing all finalists. I agree with the previous poster who interviewed at Northwestern a few years ago - I left the interview feeling unconfident about my chances. For anyone who applied to CSU-LA, they contacted their finalists for interviews today. Anyone else heard any news? It's so quiet - I feel like by March there's usually more info.

Hi @emmadlemma goodluck! : )

@LordQuas ah, good to know!
-
@LordQuas Oh cool! How did you hear about Arizona?

Hi all! I was on this forum back in 2016, but I didn't apply last year so I haven't visited in a while. I decided to try again this year, applied to 10 schools. I decided to skip Yale and Brown all together because I think I just have no chance there. Instead I applied to a smattering of well-known and not as well-known places - Ohio, Iowa, Hunter, Northwestern, Boston, UCSD, Temple, Arizona State, Arkansas, and CSU-LA (but I am having some application issues with that one) So far I've been asked to do a short 10 minute interview with Northwestern and haven't heard from any other schools. Anyone lurking who's had experience interviewing at Northwestern and can tell me what it's like? I saw some old posts from @esfg1 who seems to have had an interview there. I see UCSD is already interviewing, so I'm guessing I'm not in the running there. Good luck everyone! It seems a quieter board this year.

Hey all, got a mass email from Juilliard today announcing that Christopher Durang is retiring from the program : ( I assume everyone who applied is getting this email, but in case anyone missed it the bottom part states, "Please note that we are still in the midst of the first round of readings and do not expect to make decisions regarding which plays will move on to the next round until next month. We received nearly 300 submissions this year and that requires us to take a few more weeks to read the plays before making determinations. We will do our best to provide you with an update to your admission status as soon as possible; however, we also wish to give every play submission the complete and careful consideration that it deserves. All applicants will receive notification of their status via email as soon as determinations are made."

Congratulations to everyone with happy news! For everyone else, I feel you - it doesn't look good for me either. Out of the 11 programs I applied to, I heard nothing from anywhere until tonight - I've been waitlisted at Boston University. BU is one of my top choices so I am excited but also sad, since I doubt anyone accepted will give up a spot, and if they do, maybe I'm not even at the front of the waitlist. The agony! Good luck to everyone waiting to hear!

Hey @newengland1 posts from previous years say that Juilliard tends not to inform finalists until around April 15th
-
congratulations @newengland1! that's so cool!
-
Mine was from Weber too. Has anyone heard from Ohio, Iowa, or Brooklyn? I'm assuming they've already sent out interview notices to finalists, since I think in the past they'd picked them by now.
-
Hey @Idca I just got mine too, so you're not alone : ) It sounds like they changed the text of the rejection letter this year. In the past people posted about how the letter was very cut and dry, whereas mine seemed formulaic but complimentary, so that was nice of them.
-
congratulations everyone!
-
Thanks @newengland1 : ) I wonder how many other schools do email versus snail mail. @Boxedwine do you have that info in your spreadsheet?
-
Hey all, FYI I just got a snail-mail rejection letter from Carnegie Mellon today. So I assume that means finalists have or are about to be informed as well.
-
Also @Boxedwine I love your spreadsheet! I mean your friend's spreadsheet : D

Reading the forum from last year, apparently Juilliard doesn't inform its finalists until around April 15th, so that one's a long way off!

Hey @asimpleton I didn't apply to the New School this year, but last year I did and was a finalist. They informed us super early - I got a call from them January 30th - they informed us early because they make all playwrighting, directing, and acting finalists come to NYC for a weekend interview and activity event in early March, when they make their final decisions. I assume they are probably on a similar timeline this year, although I don't know officially. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news : ( I haven't heard from any schools yet - did anyone hear from the schools that tend to send out interview requests / rejections by around Feb. 20th? I'm beginning to assume that since I haven't heard from places, I'm probably not in the running... major sadness beginning. Good luck everyone!

Hi all, I'm new to the list! I applied to 10 schools this year, and I haven't heard anything from anywhere yet. One piece of information I can add - I was reading through last year's posts and a bunch of people were asking about the New School. Last year I only applied to the New School and Rutgers, and I heard from the New School on January 30th that I was a finalist. Being a finalist at the New School means you have to go to a special weekend-long event on campus, which took place the first week in March. If you're not invited to that event, then I'm almost positive it means you are rejected. There were 12 playwright finalists at the event, and they accepted 3-4. I was ultimately rejected, but the weekend was a great experience. I didn't re-apply to the New School this year, but I assume it's probably the same timeline. Looking forward to talking with you all about applications, and good luck to everyone!
