    Hi guys,

Longtime lurker here, you guys have really helped my application and through some rough times. Anyway, I had to come out of the shadows for this:

Anyone else get an email from Harvard about an hour ago from Caitlin Weaver with a link and this message?

"In order to finalize your application to the Harvard department of Government, please follow the link below to complete the “Supplemental Data Form”."

The link takes you to a page where you fill in your ethnicity, VA status, marriage status, whether your dependents are "coming with you to Harvard," etc.

Is this too good to be true?

I filled out that form when I originally submitted my application to Harvard -- I thought that everyone was supposed to do it.

That's a highly personal decision of course. But as I said before on this forum: It's my second cycle, and last year I was admitted to only one school which turned out to be a bad fit for me (and my worst nightmare to live in). With  heavy heart, I turned it down, acknowledging that I just wouldn't be happy there. I was 28 at the time, so you can imagine it wasn't easy.

But I pulled myself together, and reapplied, and this time I have 7 admits, 4 of which are great fits, fully-funded and interesting places.

I'm not saying pass on it. I'm saying be honest with yourself about what you want. There's no shame in trying again.  And: it's never too late :)

Just out of curiosity from your signature, which program(s) that admitted you this time around are your favorite? P.S., those are some great schools, congrats!

So, if the only school I get into is well outside the top 25, but does offer tuition waiver, stipend, and health insurance, should I accept or try again next year?

Obviously a personal decision that you'll need to make, but it may be worthwhile to reach out to your past advisers, letter writers, and professors and see what they think. I've always received great advice this way.

Sorry to interrupt the conversation you guys having but I respectfully disagree -- Parents are innocent people, no matter at what age you are -- they are always concerned about your future. If they see daily your confused expressions, you're sitting idle, your frustration about your future goals --they just cannot see you like that -- They seriously want to see you successful and so they do things according to their own perceptions of what is better for you.

I am really only joking. My parents encourage me to do whatever it is that I want with my life. What I meant is that the idea of spending more time in school studying something that's rather abstract is somewhat foreign to my parents who grew up in a generation where you graduate, get a job, work for X number of years, retire, etc. People have different ideas of "success" and there do appear to be strong differences along generational lines. That's all.

For those of you that have not heard from Colorado-Boulder: I was waitlisted by them last year, and they were very slow is letting me know. I recall that a couple of weeks had passed since they notified the accepted applicants before they ever sent out the waitlist emails.

And, @studugarte, don't worry yet regarding UVA. It is my sense that we have only contacted those who were also nominated for an additional fellowship. In other words, I don't believe all first-round acceptances have gone out yet. Though, I expect that they will go out this week or next at the latest. Sure there will be a wait list, too.

Finally, as a general point, while I realize that looking at previous years' notification dates for programs can somewhat helpful in getting an idea of a general admissions timeframe, please keep in mind that there will be some variation due to shifting responsibilities within departments. For example, at UVA, we have a new admissions director this year who is going about the process is a slightly different way. There are likely to be other programs whose processes have changed somewhat this app season as well. In the meantime, don't let you anxiety get the better of you--you will know where you stand when the programs contact you and, until then, the rest is simply speculation.

@Bubandis Thanks for this. Any insight into UVA's wait list?
