Ah! You found me! that wasn't supposed to happen Congrats! I'm really not too bummed. Chicago wasn't a very top choice, and I knew realistically I didn't have a great shot. About all I've got going for me is that I know Greek and Latin. I can't stack up to someone who has done an MA in classics! I've applied to a couple of MAs, so I'm mostly just waiting on those I threw in a couple big-name PhDs just to see if I could get lucky. Edit: By the way, I'm happy a fellow Kierkegaard fan got in! I'm so jealous of your interests. I have to ask, are you considering doing anything with theology or going into the priesthood? I saw Notre Dame on your list, and I have a good friend doing an MA in theology there right now. He's the biggest Kierkegaard nerd I've ever met!

Ah, makes sense I suppose. I hadn't thought of that. The idea of being accepted anywhere sounds so great, I forget that people actually turn down some offers for others! By the way, does anyone know why the dates are so weird on the results page? It is definitely still Feb. 6 where I am, but results from Feb. 7 have already been posted? And I've noticed that this happened a couple times before. It's like nighttime rolls around on the east coast, and the results page starts showing results for the next day.

Balls indeed. I was aiming for Chicago with a focus in ancient, but I apparently lost out to someone with an MA in ancient At least judging by the post in the acceptance thread. From what I can tell so far, it looks like MAs are just gonna completely annihilate me. Not that MAs are bad. It's just...balls.

What's the point of places waiting so long to release rejections? I mean, for god's sake, Chicago's whole claim to fame is to make all their acceptances at once, right? So....isn't that the same as rejecting everyone else at once? Would it kill them not to take two weeks to write a generic email and send it out via the online application? It seems so inconsiderate.

Addicting/maddening/"an unhealthy phenomenon" (direct quote). I have to say, they were probably right. Alas, I'm here now, so... I guess I'll finish out this season on the forums and try to avoid it next season if I get shut out.

Yeah, I learned the hard way that little ol' only-has-a-bachelor-degree-from-a-non-elite-school-with-a-lowish-GPA me is competing against people with BAs from Ivies along with MAs. That hurt.

Habitica doesn't seem like a bad idea. I might look into it myself. And I really should stop gradcafe, too. I had two different professors tell me independently never to come here. Lo and behold, I hadn't heard of gradcafe before they said that. "Well, I'll just check it out..." I thought. Probably a mistake.

How are you all staying motivated to do your work while you wait? Any tips or strategy advice? I'm running late on my honors thesis, because I can't focus at all... I have 13 applications out, and I haven't heard a peep on any of them!!

I have a question of etiquette... At the risk of disclosing my location, professors from Georgetown and Chapel Hill are coming to give guest lectures within the next two weeks. I've applied to both of their programs. If I haven't heard back by the dates of the talks, should I go? Should I attempt to speak with them about my application? For what it's worth, I go to a tiny school and I'm definitely the only applicant from it, so I have no real way to avoid the situation short of just not going.

Anyone know what's going on with WashU and Duke? What's up with the weird note about WashU from January 24th?? And did Duke accept everyone they will accept, or are they just staggering things? I haven't heard anything at all, but I figured I'd have been notified if I was rejected. Congrats to all those who've gotten in so far!!
