Ridiculously slow day today.....

I'm the same way... I want to work on contemporary metaphysics/mind and ancient Greek philosophy, but my favorite readings ever were Heidegger's Question Concerning Technology and Kierkegaard's Either/Or. And don't get me started on Dostoevsky!

Why are you assuming a rejection from Georgetown if Nat predicted they won't release for roughly two weeks?

Ah, that's tough. I'm in a long-term, long-distance relationship as it stands, and my SO and I would like to get engaged soon, so that's why location>rank for me.

For those who have been accepted/waitlisted near the top, what is more important for you, rank or location? For me, I'd say location. I'm stocked about Pitt and WashU, but Virginia has a perfect location...might have to bite the bullet and go there, jobs be damned.

I think we can all agree on two things: (1) the original rant-poster is a sexist loser, and (2) we all busted, hauled, broke, tore, and worked off our asses for years on end to get where we are -- some far more than others because they were unfairly judged based on race, gender, and class, which should be among the absolute most trivial of facts about a person in regard to their philosophical skills. So can we move the discussion to a separate thread and restore peace in the venting thread?

I did hear from a somewhat reliable source that UNC has had a very busy month/week and, out of the interest of time, might be accepting/waitlisting/rejecting as they go along, rather than solidifying define accept/waitlist/reject pools. So that's encouraging. But the source was a friend of a friend who happens to be a professor at UNC but isn't on the admissions committee... So who knows? Edit: That was worded confusingly. I heard from a guy, with whom I happen to be friends, who is himself friends with someone tangentially connected to the phil department at UNC but isn't on the adcomm. I'm not friends with anyone on the phil faculty at UNC, as my original wording might have suggested. I'm just a lowly undergrad at a different school.

I'm not sure. I was in a bad state of mind last night when apparently some UNC acceptances and one waitlist went out, but I have no clue what it means for the rest of us who heard nothing but crickets.

I saw that your signature says you're presuming a rejection from WUSTL PNP. As far as I know, the PNP accepts/rejects tend to come out later than the general admits, which just now came out. I don't think you should presume a rejection just yet!

Sorry, gradcafe, for the freakout about UNC last night. I need to learn to be patient, instead of getting drunk and changing my display name to soidecidedtoquitgradcafe. FWIW there haven't been official rejections from UNC...maybe there's still hope for us?

Finally got the rejection from Duke. Took long enough! Just a generic email from the grad admissions office uploaded to the application status page.

Ah, it's ok! I think that maybe it's better that it wasn't automated? I'm not sure. Either way, I have two good offers -- it would just be nice to stay with my SO. Anyways, congrats!

Any word on whether the emails were personalized or sent by an actual person? If it was just a standard message from the application system, I'll stop freaking out and just go drink. If it was from an actual person and addressed to you personally, I'll still cling to my hopes and dreams and continue to freak out.

More that she doesn't want me to be. She's doing an MFA at UNC already. But, I mean, she's cool and she understands. It would just be awesome to move in together.

Damn I didn't realize a waitlist had gone out I guess I'll have to break the news to my SO soon... definitely waiting for an official rejection before I do, though.

I agree... fuck this Duke bullshit. 20 damn days since acceptances went out, not a peep about my rejection yet... And thanks! Good luck at Northwestern and Arizona! And hopefully Berkeley, too, unless they're just another Duke.

Any idea if UNC is done? I really, really want to go there... My significant other already is, and we had planned to move in together if I got in
