  1. Well....rejected from 4 now, accepted to none. I am probably going to fill out an FSU app (I'm quite interested in metaphysics and philosophy of action), and I've yet to hear back from some UK schools (including Oxford), but I'm not feeling good about the rest. Just wish I knew how close I was, and what I could have done differently.
  2. This is precisely what happened to me! I did have a chance to visit the Oxford admissions building in Oxford last summer, though, so I was pleased to evaluate their very helpful advice! However, yes, not fun to tease us.
  3. Rejected from Texas A&M. Record number of applicants, limited funding, etc. 0-for-3 does not feel good.
  4. Congrats! Wish I could up vote, so +1.
  5. Ah, I see. I was wondering, since I saw four or so acceptances. If you don't mind, which of the four are you leaning toward the most at this point? Or are you going to wait to see about the others first?
  6. So I received word back from the head of the department's admissions: she reassured me they have my transcripts, so it's all good. So I just went briefly insane and probably looked it; I did manage to keep the emails succinct and polite, so hopefully I didn't come off poorly. I am quite relieved, to say the least!
  7. Thanks for the advice! I'm having trouble getting hold of them currently, but I did upload the transcripts that I had as quickly as possible. I couldn't tell if this "incomplete" really will set me back a few weeks, and if it's an indicator that they just now got to it, or if they were going to extend an offer, or what.
  8. I don't want to vent too much, but I just had a minor freakout. In monitoring my apps outstanding, I discovered that today my app was marked "Incomplete." Now I have taken great pains to pay close attention and follow all instructions, so I was very concerned. It was one of those schools that the phil. department instructed me to send transcripts to a certain place, and the official app to another; long story short, I apparently have chosen poorly. Anyway, I noticed that it may take 2-3 weeks for my documents to be recognized. I should have double-checked; it was likely a "both-and" rather than "either-or" and I just didn't clarify. Doh! I'm going to go to the gym for a fitness class; I have a gut that needs trimming in any case.
  9. Thanks so much! I found a onesie that I'm going to put on him that says "World's Greatest Philosopher*" with small print reading "*Depending on your definition of 'world,' 'greatest,' and 'philosopher.'" I can't wait!
  10. Honestly, two reasons: 1. I was led to believe the GRE was a bigger deal than it apparently is, and I did not do well on the quant side. 2. I honestly just aimed a bit lower, relatively, because I didn't actually get an undergraduate degree in philosophy. I ended up trying to "catch up" on a grad level, and now have 36 phil hours on my transcript. I'm married and we're expecting a baby within the next two weeks(!), so with it all going on, I don't know that I was able to put my best foot forward in all of my apps. I hope you get in to some programs that you want; I myself would be happy with one, but absolutely thrilled to have a choice!
  11. I thought I had read that somewhere, also. All I know is, I need money to attend Oxford lol!
  12. If I could up vote this, I would. Congrats!!!
  13. I applied for the Ertegun (not sure if you did, Abendstern), to see how it goes. My interests are in metaphysics and philosophy of religion, and Oxford is a great place for both!
  14. I applied to Oxford, and expect to hear back around mid-March, based on their website.
