  1. Congratulations! I hope you get the funding you need!
  2. You know what would be awesome? If I heard back from the rest of the schools. And if the fantastic leather jacket I ordered would actually get here and stop being stuck on "accepted." Because I want my jacket and an acceptance. Preferably now. Yes that would be awesome.
  3. I am with @thepinkdragon76 on this. If you're set on it - go. Even if you have to find your own way to fund it, you could regret not choosing the place you really wanted.
  4. Things happen. It doesn't matter why you think you should get preferential treatment. If a professor makes a very simple request, you oblige. The fact you "didn't save" your work combined with you being extremely difficult about giving your professor another copy leads me to believe that he had a very good reason to request that electronic copy to begin with.
  5. Are you actually being serious? Apparently him blatantly requesting you send him another copy (by your own admission), it still isn't good enough to be considered a request for another copy. This is utterly absurd. You're in grad school, not high school. Take some responsibility for yourself.
  6. According to you, you gave him a print copy before his request for an electronic one. You couldn't provide that so he requested a print copy. By definition, requesting for a copy outside of the original you handed in would be requesting another copy, regardless of the format he requested it in. Does this really need to be explained? I don't understand why you are making this so difficult. If such a simple request garners this much difficulty from you, I can only imagine what the rest of your program will be like.
  7. I totally understand that. From OSU, my rejection came at about 4pm central, about an hour before their offices closed. But all the communication I received from FSU has always been in the morning at about 7:30am central (8:30 their time) so I keep thinking to check my email in the morning just out of habit. I haven't heard anything from anyone else yet. Waiting definitely sucks. It's currently spring break for FSU and though I was told they'd finish reviewing my application last week, I have no idea if they actually did or if I will have to wait for their return. And if they did finish it, I don't know if the admissions office has received their decision yet and whether I will be contacted this week.
  8. He needs another copy. Instead of just providing it, it almost appears as though you're trying to get out of it. If I was the professor, I would be questioning your odd behavior. After all, you didn't save it (using school computers is not an excuse for that), you only had a print copy yet you wanted to know why he "changed the topic" when requesting another print copy (even though he didn't change any topic), you keep questioning why he wants it. All this for the very simple request of sending it to him. It's great you have another print copy, but I would still question why ALL the difficulty in trying to get that extra copy and why you don't really have a valid reason for not having an electronic version. You don't want to retype it, ok fine. Except not having saved copy is on you, not your professor. Honestly you've made it the entire thing difficult for yourself. And perhaps that's why you feel like your professors are out to get you. Good luck.
  9. I'm not in grad school yet, but wanted to weigh in because I've experienced profs asking for another copy. My response to them was simply saying "sure!" and providing it. From my perspective, it doesn't seem weird to me. Clearly he needs another one, which likely means something happened to the first. There's really no need to read anything into it other than to assume that something must have happened to the copy you gave him for him to need another one. I can't think of any time I didn't save my work, even if I wasn't working on my own computer. Get yourself a USB flash drive. You can't just assume your professors will never request another copy from you, and I highly doubt that telling them you didn't save it because you were on the school computer is going to be considered a reasonable excuse. They're going to rightfully expect that you take measures to save your work.
  10. After the rejection I received on Friday, I have managed not to check the admissions portal. It helped that it was a weekend so I wouldn't hear anything anyway, but I also haven't checked yet today so far either. I mostly just don't want to see another rejection so soon after already getting one. I do jump every time I get a new email though.
  11. I am finishing up my degree online. For a myriad of reasons, traditional classes just were not possible for my undergrad. So my LORs were from my online professors. I stuck with ones that I had for at least a few classes. Since I have been doing fashion merchandising, that wasn't very difficult since the program is relatively small. I also had an LOR from my academic advisor, as well as a professional one from my job since I had already been working as a merchandiser. How LORs from online profs are viewed by other schools, I don't know. I would hope not terribly, as more and more schools are offering online programs. Heck, even Harvard offers online courses. So I would hope that the stereotype that online education isn't good enough is dissipating. However, I would say there are still some online schools/programs that might not carry the same weight as a brick and mortar school. As far as the GRE goes, I studied on and off for about a year. Not dedicated studying, but doing flashcards on my phone when bored, or on a break at work etc. About 6 months prior to the test, I got serious about studying and I also took several practice tests. All the practice tests put me higher than what I actually did on the real test...so I don't know. However, my program focuses primarily on the written portion. That isn't something practice tests grade on, but I did make note of all the tips and did practice on those just so I had a better idea of how to manage my time when doing that portion. I got a 5.5 on the real test. As far as research experience goes, the only research I have done is for schoolwork. Otherwise I don't have any. However, in merchandising, programs typically look for more experience than research. I had worked as a personal stylist for a few years, have been a visual merchandiser for coming up on two years this summer. I received a rejection from one school this past Friday and am waiting to hear back from three others. We shall see how this goes.
  12. My thought is that if my friends realize what is going on in my life and know huge changes are coming my way, then they also know my time is limited and it's up to them to make it a priority to see me. Even if they're five hours away, it's not a lot to ask if they're "pissed" about it. If they're upset, they'll make the time for you, even if you can't put them up. Otherwise don't worry about them and just focus on you. That's just my take on it.
  13. I didn't say that my family life is the only life, although as a mother, it does have a higher priority in my life than making sure I hit the bars with those 15 years younger than me. Know what I mean? I'm not saying I don't associate with them anymore, or that we don't have common ground, or that I let it rule my interactions, or that I can't enjoy social time with anyone younger than me. I've worked with people younger than me and treat people equally, but also keep it professional at work which is different than socialization. I'm just saying my priorities and responsibilities (outside of school and work) are very different than someone over a decade younger. Basically, for myself, I just don't pretend I'm in my early 20s when I'm in my mid 30s, and do not live the same life as the someone in his early 20s. I've outgrown that age both physically and mentally. I just don't think that people should be told they're setting themselves up for failure when they realize that in many cases, there is a world of difference between being 22 and being 35.
  14. In regards to strictly school, I would agree (for the most part). However, outside of that, my life as a 35 year old married mother of two is VERY different from someone in their early 20s who may only be in the dating scene. Our personal lives do not relate and that's just reality. I don't view it as an impediment, I don't try to be a parent or mentor. I am friendly and I am not miserable about it. At the same time, I also don't pretend we are on the same level in life. We're not. That said, sometimes that difference can prove to be a frustration in certain situations. Doesn't mean the person is miserable, just that sometimes a situation could use a good venting.
  15. So sorry. Sulking night for both of us. Got rejected from my safe school this afternoon. Now I am convinced the rest will be rejections as well. I had no desire to go out and get even a bottle of wine tonight.
  16. Just got rejected from OSU. That was my safe school. Well this just sucks.
  17. That is good to hear. They sent emails out over a month ago saying that reviews would not be done over spring break, so I hope they actually do complete it this week so I have a chance to hear next week. Otherwise it's an even longer wait.
  18. Wow, I don't even know how I would react to that. Maybe a response that's equally inappropriate such as "kthxbai"? Ok not really...but still, I wouldn't be very happy to see something like that.
  19. On my end, one application status says the program completed their review and will send the decision via email. That was a couple days ago and I was hoping to hear by today. The day isn't over yet and I'm really hoping they can carve out time in their day to click that "send" button because I don't want to go through a painfully slow weekend waiting for Monday to get here. Another school said they'd finish reviewing my application this week and send a decision after that, which I am thinking I won't see until at least the 14th since they are on spring break next week. Not that it will stop me from checking portal every few minutes. I'm not expecting a decision from another until later this month, and the fourth has been radio silent. I will say this is probably the first time in my life that I hate the weekends.
  20. Ugh that sucks. I'm sorry! The silence really bothers me when it comes to the money we gave them. If they take our money, they could at least have the decency to give a response. And the same with reviewing applications. I'm not particularly keen on just giving away free money. I want some sort of result from it, even if it is a rejection.
  21. Checked portal for OSU about an hour or so ago and came across this message... "The program has completed their review of your application. The Graduate College is reviewing their feedback and will notify you of the final decision via email." So it could be at any time now for them. I'm both anxious to find out and crazy nervous. It's my safe school, and I'd like to at least be accepted there since I am expecting rejections from at least two others.
  22. YAY!!! I'm so happy for you!! Congratulations!!!
  23. Haven't heard any decisions yet. But Florida State did email me today saying that they are finishing up reviewing my application over the next week and that I would hear a decision shortly after that. So there's that at least.
