I think that you are neglecting to separate "sex" from "gender." Sex refers to the biological categories of male and female which are determined by genetics, reproductive organs, and hormones (though to fit everyone into one of these neat and tidy boxes can also be a dangerous assumption). On the other hand, gender can be looked at more as a spectrum from masculine to feminine traits, behaviors, and roles determined by and generated from social expectations. While people may be biologically male or female, they are capable of displaying or associating with characteristics from any range on the gender spectrum. A person who is female does not necessarily need to be feminine, and likewise a male does not have to be masculine. Those who classify themselves as transgendered associate with a gender identity that does not match their biological sex.

So we all jumped through flaming hoops of hell fire to pave the way and make things less challenging for the next generation... yeah that makes me feel a whole lot better.

While both are generally accepted, I tend to agree, but there are exceptions such as James's sweater, or Moses's hat (James' sweater, Moses' hat)

@ least I managed to make it to the ninth percentile I have no real world experience/internships in my field of interest, I've spent the last 2 years since my BA teaching preschool, and I wrote my admissions essay one day before deadline.

I've been lurking and could use a serious pick-me-up, so here goes: Soild GPA: 3.62, Major: 3.86 Active in undergrad community: RA for 3+ years, Editor student newspaper, Library Manager/Dee Jay of student radio station (consistently rated among the top 15 college stations in the country) Work experience/ethic: Though varied, I've held at least one job since I was in high school and throughout my undergrad years Glowing yet succinct LORs Plentiful awards & honors during undergrad: ODK Society Member, New York Press Association award recipient, several campus-specific awards as well GRE scores: AW 4.5 & 5.5, Verbal 65th & 77th percentile Still trepidatious in regards to: pitiful GRE quant scores, lack of internships/relevant real-world work experience, currently employed far outside my ideal field
